Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

At a school like USF, academics often take a back seat to the city and religious preference of the school. But the professors are one of the most important and inspirational parts of USF. Since the school is relatively small, it is extremely easy to get to know your professors on a personal level. They are intriguing, dedicated, and passionate about their fields and are more concerned with teaching than performing research. The best thing to do at USF is to take advantage of office hours and get to know the professors inside your major as well as outside.

Students at USF have many opportunities to increase their opportunities academically. With programs such as the honors program in the humanities and the Saint Ignatius Institute, students can take more rigorous courses than the core curriculum and expand their academic horizons beyond their major. Also, USF provides a number of ways to make the most of your time in college, particularly with the dual degree program in education, which regards studying abroad as important and makes it part of the required curriculum—something students value because any other dual-degree program would not allow them the time to study abroad. Also, the 4+3 law program enables students to take a minor in legal studies, and with appropriate LSAT scores, students are offered automatic admission into the USF law school. The possibilities to succeed academically at USF are endless—students just need to be aware of what is available, and take advantage while they can.

Very Helpful Professors

In my experience at USF, I have never had a bad professor. Each professor I've had has explained the topics we're learning about to the fullest extent, and is always available for help. The workload varies from class to class, but if one has the right mindset then the work doesn't seem too overwhelming. Our library has many areas where one can study and get work done - there are lots of hidden spots that are extremely private and quiet.

Great Professors and Classes

The Psych professors are all very helpful and available, not to mention very nice. The class sizes are small which makes it easy to speak up in class and ask questions. Also, the variety of classes is great, with lots diverse topics to choose from. And we have a very strong psi-chi chapter.

Academics at USF

USF, I would say, has a rigorous academic program with many opportunities to excel in your major. USF is in the city, so the opportunities are endless. Small classes, which are great and new technologies in the library to help you study and work.
