Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

At a school like USF, academics often take a back seat to the city and religious preference of the school. But the professors are one of the most important and inspirational parts of USF. Since the school is relatively small, it is extremely easy to get to know your professors on a personal level. They are intriguing, dedicated, and passionate about their fields and are more concerned with teaching than performing research. The best thing to do at USF is to take advantage of office hours and get to know the professors inside your major as well as outside.

Students at USF have many opportunities to increase their opportunities academically. With programs such as the honors program in the humanities and the Saint Ignatius Institute, students can take more rigorous courses than the core curriculum and expand their academic horizons beyond their major. Also, USF provides a number of ways to make the most of your time in college, particularly with the dual degree program in education, which regards studying abroad as important and makes it part of the required curriculum—something students value because any other dual-degree program would not allow them the time to study abroad. Also, the 4+3 law program enables students to take a minor in legal studies, and with appropriate LSAT scores, students are offered automatic admission into the USF law school. The possibilities to succeed academically at USF are endless—students just need to be aware of what is available, and take advantage while they can.

Availibility

Availibility is a huge thing at USF. Because class sizes do remain so small, you have a relationship with each of your teachers. Each teacher has office hours every week during which you can meet with them. Because the school is in a very diverse city, the teachers also come from all around. In my experience I've had teachers from Japan, Russia, all over the US and from Europe as well. Academics are great, but these are the things that allow USF to stand above other schools.

Good academics here

I really appreciate the courses I have taken during the past 2 semesters at USF. The professors know what they're talking about, and they are inspirational because they seem to know everything about their subjects! It's easy to contact professors because classes are small and you can email them anytime, and some professors respond at the most surprising times (like in the AM). I've had great experiences with professors here even though I'm the type of student to enter the classroom, sit through the whole time, and just leave asap. I'm still pleased with the professors because even though I'm hard to get to know as a student, they have such a good, positive attitude towards their work (every single professor I've had was that way). I love what I'm learning in classes, and although first semester it was difficult to register for courses (a couple of the classes I wanted were full), I was still able to find substitute courses that worked out just fine. Registering for fall courses was worry-free, even though I had expected a headache from it! :) Things worked out great, and I am so happy to be here.

Great School for Nursing

I came to USF because of its reputable undergraduate program. We get tons of hands-on experience both in the lab and on clinical sites at various hospitals in and around the city as well as a background in the ethical principles that go along with becoming a nurse. Graduating in four years with a BSN and being able to work right afterwords is awesome.
