Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Dining on campus offers many options, and only organic items are used, but the prices reflect the quality. However, some say it’s worth it. Since USF is a relatively small school, there are only a handful of places to eat, and one company—Bon Appetit—handles every single food-related franchise on campus. The main cafeteria is the Market, located in the University Center at the heart of campus, which means it is insanely crowded at lunch and dinner time. Unfortunately, all of the dining services on campus close at abnormal hours. There is a grocery/café called the Wolf and Kettle up on Lone Mountain, which many students like as an alternative to the normal prepared food in the cafeteria.

Most students complain about the food on campus, but the reality is that dissatisfaction comes from repetition. Expect to get sick of dining hall food, no matter what school you go to. Fortunately, San Francisco has a million excellent restaurants, so you can always take a break from campus dining and check out the latest taqueria or bistro. Here’s one last bit of advice: The meal plan at USF is a declining balance, which means most people spend all of their money at the beginning of the semester. Be sure to ration a weekly amount and stick to it!

Campus Dining

The cafeteria is aesthetically pleasing and a great place to eat, socialize, and study. The food is done by Bon Appetit and it's very expensive, although on-campus students get roughly $2,000/semester to use. The food is decent; it could be better, but it's great that they're trying to use locally produced, organic food products to make the meals.

Pros and Cons

The food can be delicious and elaborate, but only occasionally. Oftentimes, the food can be greasy and there isn't much to choose from. The food itself and meal plans are also ridiculously overpriced, with the meal plan working as a prepaid debit system. This sometimes results in students overeating by the end of semesters to minimize monetary loss.
