College Prowler Take
In accordance with Jesuit principles and morals, USF has a drug-free policy, which means that every student has the right to a safe, drug-free environment. If you are caught doing drugs on campus, Public Safety officers are called and immediate disciplinary action is taken. While the consequences are tough, anyone who has ever lived in the dorms will tell you that weed is a popular drug at USF and smelling it in the halls is not uncommon. The good news is that, at USF, the drug scene is not terribly predominant, and few students ever feel pressured into taking drugs. According to the Progressive Party, a group on campus that specializes in substance abuse support for students, the perceived amount of substance abuse at USF is much higher than the actual usage. For example, the perceived percentage of students who drink three times a week or more is 60 percent, whereas the actual percentage is only 19 percent, according to the group. Also, the perceived percentage of students who smoke marijuana three or more times a week is 26 percent, while the actual percentage is 6 percent. Like at any school, there are students who drink and do drugs, but at USF, substance abuse is not an immediate threat. If you don’t want to get involved with drugs, you probably will never encounter them. And even if you do encounter them, no one is going to force you to take drugs if you don’t want to.

There is plenty of weed and a good amount of other fashion drugs, which can be easily obtained in a liberal, ‘hippie’ city like SF. |

It depends on who you hang out with, just like anywhere else. There are crowds that are heavily into everything, one drug, or just heavily into drinking. There are people that are even strictly sober. Pick the one that fits you best. |

On campus, there is rampant weed smoking; almost everyone does at least a little. Occasionally, you’ll encounter a few more serious drugs, but nothing too abnormal. |

There are quite a few regular potheads. I’m assuming a good number of people also use coke, because a lot of students here come from major money. |

Students with a monkey on their backs can conveniently head off to nearby Haight Street to get their kicks. Corner deals provide even the most clean-cut junkie with the perfect fix. Lots of drugs in the Bay Area, you know. |
