Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

For the most part, USF is an attractive campus with attractive people. Lots of students dress to impress. For girls, showing skin is pretty popular, even in the classroom. However, due to the weather, it’s necessary to hide under large coats and sweatshirts in the winter. The guys, usually cloaked in jeans and a T-shirt, are quite friendly and approachable (sometimes more than the girls). The girls get comments of being cliquey or catty, but that’s not the general consensus.

Students at USF often complain about the ratio of girls to guys and the lack of available hotties to choose from, which stems from the fact that USF is a small school. Fortunately, as most will agree, the number of undergraduates has nothing on the number of attractive and intriguing people on campus. Because USF is so diverse, there are lots of appealing guys and girls, and the hardest part is getting to know them. Since USF is in a very glamorous city that has an abundance of beautiful people, stepping off campus for an evening is bound to yield a hottie or two.

So Many Girls

There's definitely a majority of girls at this school so if you're a straight male then you'd be happy. There are definitely cute guys from all types, they're just harder to find.

Mix

There's a pretty big mix of all different types of people at USF. Lots of artsy people, but also lots of athletic people.

What kinds of relationships have you had since coming to school?

How would you rate the social scene on campus?

Facts

Social Scene

The residence halls are the social central for USF, particularly because all underclassmen are required to live on campus. Each residence hall has an RHA (Residence Hall Association) representative that works with the Resident Advisor (RA) to put on special events and socials. Plus, living on campus at a relatively small school allows you to make a solid base of friends that will carry over after everyone has moved off campus. Also, getting involved in clubs and organizations on campus or studying in the UC or in Harney Plaza are great ways for students at USF to mingle with each other.

Hookups or Relationships?

More often than not, those students at USF that are dating are involved in relationships; however, random hookups on college campuses are inevitable. On warm days, you'll see couples, along with everyone else, basking in the sunlight on all of the grassy areas around campus.

Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls

Because students are drawn toward the city of San Francisco, staying on campus long enough to meet guys and girls can sometimes be more of a task than making the first move. However, extroverted students will have no problem meeting people at USF. The most popular ways to meet people are through clubs and organizations, chatting up people sitting outside, and getting to know your classmates through study sessions and talking before or after class. If you'd rather meet college students that do not attend USF, you should head to bars and cafés around the other universities like UCSF or SF State. If you're tired of searching the college scene for hot guys or girls, downtown and the Marina district of San Francisco are overflowing with good-looking people.

Dress Code

At USF and in San Francisco, anything goes. A large number of students here dress to be seen, even when going to an 8 a.m. class. There are a lot of "rich kids" on campus, which means that there are a lot of stylish, sharply-dressed students. But on the same token, there are just as many students who use clothing to represent who they are and how they feel. From USF-logo sweatshirts to American Eagle to hand-made clothing, everyone at USF is comfortable wearing whatever they want.
