Things I Wish I Knew Before Coming To School
  • Get to know your advisor, and try to keep them throughout your entire college career.
  • Greek life has little presence on campus.
  • If you know you’ll get tired of eating the same thing, pick the smallest meal plan and eat off campus the rest of the time.
  • Most professors have a strict attendance policy.
  • That smell in the dorm hallway won’t go away.
  • That smell in your dorm room will go away.

  • USF uses the four-unit system (each course worth four units instead of the usual three) meaning you will take a smaller number of more intense classes. This makes transferring credits difficult for students changing universities.
  • You have to take writing and public speaking, no matter what your major is.
Tips to Succeed
  • Attend campus lectures and Lone Mountain readings.
  • Do not bring a car to USF.
  • Get involved with any and all clubs and organizations that interest you.
  • Go to class and participate.
  • Take advantage of the diversity and learn about a new culture.
  • Take advantage of your professor’s office hours and accessibility.

My New Love

I transfered here from another University and have found a perfect fit. I love the people here because they are all so proactive and motivated. The faculty has been great and involved in our academic journey. The buildings are stunning and stand out in the city, but my favorite part is that when I am at the top of campus, I can look out over all of San Francisco, see city hall, the Golden Gate Bridge and the town sparkles in the evening. You can't get that anywhere else in the world. I am in love with my school and feel so lucky to be studying here in the best city in the whole world.

It's Located in the Heart of One of the Best Cities in the Country

USF is located in the heart of San Francisco, a very vibrant, happening city with tons of fun things to do. While on campus, one has the privilege to see a wide variety of views of the city, from the Golden Gate Bridge, Downtown SF, and the hills of San Francisco. There are many different clubs one can take part in and become more social. The Greek life on campus isn't very popular since there are only two national sororities, however it will probably grow with time. USF also offers many study abroad programs that I think everyone should take advantage of, as my biggest regret in my time here at USF was not participating in a study abroad program.

Urban Setting

Being a transfer student, I didn't get a lot of the social/dorm scene. So what I think of and appreciate most is the urban setting of the school. Its small and comfy, but within a big city with every opportunity you need to pursue whatever you desire. And with public transportation very available, you can easily go anywhere.

Facts

Urban Legends
  • Lone Mountain is haunted by the ghost of a nun who killed herself after being impregnated by a priest.
  • Students at USF are the snobs of the college scene in San Francisco, due to the high price of tuition, private status of the school, and all the rich kids that go here.
  • USF is built on top of a cemetery and not all of the bodies were moved.
