Play on Words

I am in the Creative Arts and Sciences program, majoring in English with an emphasis on creative writing. I absolutely love the program here because it is hands on and the faculty is great. I am taking poetry and rhetoric which have been enjoyable because the class size is small so I get to read my work out loud and I can get class and teacher feedback right away which has been more beneficial than anything. There are lots of internships available to us. I interned at a record label and got to write columns and bios for them which was a great experience. I have been getting involved with the school newspaper and literary magazine and I think that college is about going after every available opportunity.

My New Love

I transfered here from another University and have found a perfect fit. I love the people here because they are all so proactive and motivated. The faculty has been great and involved in our academic journey. The buildings are stunning and stand out in the city, but my favorite part is that when I am at the top of campus, I can look out over all of San Francisco, see city hall, the Golden Gate Bridge and the town sparkles in the evening. You can't get that anywhere else in the world. I am in love with my school and feel so lucky to be studying here in the best city in the whole world.

Fog Rolls in and Out of the City by the Bay

I am a Los Angeles native and have been loving this fog that seems to roll in at a certain time and roll out 20 minutes later. I love that the weather is so unpredictable, which keeps me on my feet! I love walking to class and finally get to make use of some winter wear which was so foreign to me before. The fog is like a mysterious game and my friends and I make bets to see how long it will stay . My all time favorite aspect of the weather is how the fog will cover half of the Golden Gate bridge and the top sticks out as if you are on top of the clouds. The fog just eats the city and makes a whole new life above it all.

Decent

I've never personally had a problem. I have always received a significant amount of aid and nothing has been to difficult but I've heard some horror stories from friends about aid getting cut or terrible miscommunications with one stop.

Muni Is Awesome

Its really great that USF has put a discounted MUNI pass into our tuition because having a bus pass has been incredibly convenient. There are a lot of bus stops by school and you can get pretty much everywhere you need to.

Okay, but Minimal Options

The cafeteria food is decent, but it's definitely overpriced and it's the same thing every week. It's easy to get tired of it and there's a lack of variety and quality in basic foods that any college should have (i.e. eggs, pasta, etc.). Additionally, the hours of the cafeteria and Outtakes are terrible. They need to be often far more often for students.

The School and the City Are Definitely What You Make of Them.

USF has an interesting social scene. While it's definitely warped coming from a native/off-campus perspective, I've found that you definitely have to find a way into the social scene, which takes work. The parties are often sparse and spread out if you don't know the person hosting them (unlike San Francisco State across the park where you can walk into the apartment complexes and always find something). San Francisco is very much a 21+ city. The only 18+ club, City Nights, is a ghetto shitshow that will hold your attention for a few weekends but definitely gets old. However, the city is lined with interesting people and places and there are a lot of cool gatherings if you're willing to look for them (on sites such as http://sf.funcheap.com/). If you are off campus, HANG OUT IN THE DORMS. You'll meet people just walking in and out. All in all, the city really opens up after you turn 21.

Urban Setting

Being a transfer student, I didn't get a lot of the social/dorm scene. So what I think of and appreciate most is the urban setting of the school. Its small and comfy, but within a big city with every opportunity you need to pursue whatever you desire. And with public transportation very available, you can easily go anywhere.

Diverse but Not

There are a lot of rich kids first and foremost because its as private school and therefore very expensive. Many students are not, but I definitely feel like its skewed towards more wealthy kids. But there is a lot of ethnic diversity, and though its a catholic school there is a lot of religious diversity as well. And, being in San Francisco, it is very LGBT friendly and accepting.

Great Professors and Classes

The Psych professors are all very helpful and available, not to mention very nice. The class sizes are small which makes it easy to speak up in class and ask questions. Also, the variety of classes is great, with lots diverse topics to choose from. And we have a very strong psi-chi chapter.

There's the Library, and Several Labs.

The computer selection at USF is decent. Network failures are rare and support is usually only a phone call or (if you're on campus) a walk away. Printers are rarely too crowded except around finals and wireless goes across campus, sans a few spots.

Change the World from Here

The focus on Social Justice definitely sets our school apart from others. Most of the clubs and even many of our majors bring learning and compassion for your fellow man together into one great challenge: change the world from here. In addtion, SF is the place to do this, as it is obviously one of the most liberal cities in the country. There is a ton of opportunities to address taboo subjects, and to help those less fortunate. But USF encourages you to experiment within the city limits, and when you graduate, have the guts to test deeper waters in cities that may still have prejudiced eyes.

In addition, there is always something to do, both on and off campus. The city will eat you up if you do not set aside time to study, but it forces our students to be very involved and constantly alert to their surroundings. Campus life is a little dry, except in the dorms. This is where most people meet their life-long friends, and there is always a program to attend and food to be had.

The final treasures to USF are the professors. We have amazing people on staff, who honestly care about your education, and because we are private, we have the capability to take advantage of the wisdom and experiences the professors bring.

I Love USF

I love USF. I came mainly for the academics, and that is truly it's main focus. The school also focuses a lot on diversity and social justice, which I think is great for college students to be immersed in, that way they can bring it out into the world. I think many students notice the bureaucracy of the Jesuits, but appreciate the structure of the school and the things they are learning. They really do live by their tag line and mission statement, but also keep the religion low-key. They love to be supportive and inclusive of all. I think we have a great array of clubs and organizations, and the only reason the greek life is minimal is because SF law prohibits more than 6 people of one gender living together (it's considered a brothel), so it really brings out the community service in our greek life. Although not all of our students are high-achievers, we have some programs that really shine including the nursing program, which I am apart of. I really have enjoyed my experience at USF, and I am excited for the upcoming years.

University of Single Females

First off, let me explain the name "University of Single Females": There are way too many girls compared to guys and unfortunately for single heterosexual girls looking to date, there is a huge shortage of men. The guys I've made friends with so far are all gay! I don't have a problem with homosexuals, but since I'm straight, there is barely a chance for me to find someone. The straight guys are not hot at this school (sorry if you don't agree) but there are lots of good-looking girls! So this school would be like heaven for straight guys looking to date.

When it comes to dressing, there is variety and you can basically wear whatever you want to wear and be yourself. That's a great thing. Of course, there will probably be that small percentage of gossipy, mean people you find at every school that don't like the way you dress, but you can easily ignore them.

Social life here is alright (we're not a party school), but it's great if you live in the dorms. I feel like I am having a long sleepover with friends but with homework and studying! Because I am outgoing and friendly, I put in effort to find good people and now I have a pretty great bunch of people to make things better. Beware of the bad roommate, because I got one and thankfully I was able to move into a different room with a super awesome roommate and friend. It's really important to be able to have an active social life at this school because so many of the news and information about this school and off-campus events/organizations are spread by word of mouth. Even if you are shy, you can find friends if you are friendly. Most people here seem nice enough, but it also depends on the people you are surrounded by. Another thing is that thee are some people who prefer to stick in a group of friends and continue hanging out with them all the time, but it isn't difficult to mingle with different people. I have my own bunch of friends (it's not just one group) and it's great because everywhere I go, I can find someone I know and can chat with.

I'm from a beach town so coming to the city is a big change. I hate it here because of how fast paced it is, but if that's what you're into then i guess it would be awesome. The city is only seven miles by seven miles but there is a lot to do here. The shopping is great in Union Square. The only thing is that since it's so fast paced, people are pretty rude.

More Girls Than Hot Studs

At University of San Francisco, there are far more girls on campus than guys. Which makes it hard to date for girls. Although it is the city, so there are many people to meet off campus. Many of the girls dress up in their trendy outfits. The guys are either hipster or bros. The first year at college, many of the guys are just trying to play the field, not much room for a relationship here. Social life is interesting, at this school theres not much of campus spirit, people get into their own groups and do their own thing. Theres not huge frat parties or anything because the houses in the city are so small. Many people just explore the city for fun or hit the night clubs.

Weed is barely illegal here. A lot of people do it, and you can almost always smell it. If you really want to be safe, go to Golden Gate Park. I'm giving this an A because it's all over, but if you don't want a part in it it's invisible.

The University of San Francisco allows me to get my education done. It it a very challenging school with instructors who are very well qualified and very personable. I love the school's electronic web page and my acedemic advisor because they are easy to use and there to help me. I am already considering pursuing my master's degree at this school. Great experience!!!

Alot of the guys at USF are the same. They fall into 3 groups. The 2 biggest groups are frat boys who love to get drunk and smoke weed and the hipsters who drink paps blue ribbon and ride bikes in tight jeans. the third group is everyone else (this is the smallest group)

Plenty and Easily Accessible

There are many computers in the libray on main campus, in the computer lab on Lone Mountain campus, and in Kalmanovitz Hall (classroom building)for students to use. They can also print there as well. If those are closed there is a 24-hour computer lab on main campus that is available for use and printing also.

Amazing City

San Francisco is an amazing city with something to offer everyone. People are overall very friendly and the city is a ton of fun to explore. Poetry slams in the mission, concerts at Golden Gate park, citywide festivals (Valentines day pillow fight downtown, Bay to Breakers, Love Fest) are just a few perks. Amazing parks, great restaurants just an amazing city.

I am so unbelievably glad I...

I am so unbelievably glad I transferred here. The tuition is extremely high, but part of that can be expected from a city like San Francisco. I love this school, though, and the city. The size is small, but not so small you can’t meet anyone new. I also enjoy the faculty and the aesthetics of the campus. It’s absolutely beautiful! Especially Saint Ignatius Church, when it’s lit up at night and shrouded in fog, it’s absolutely beautiful. I’m also glad USF is making so many renovations because they were long overdue. The renovations will make the school even better for years to come.
