I haven't really came across any "drug activity" around campus but I have seen "drunken activity" all around campus. I haven't been pressured since I started here back in January, from what I've heard, USC has a very strict alcohol and drug policy. Even some areas around the campus are tobacco free.

The restaurants are all around the USC campus and there is actually a website, www.campusspecial.com, which has a variety of options. It also provides whether the company does delivery or takeout. The prices are never really to expensive, my favorite place is Yesterday's Tavern and never pay over $15 for a delicious fulfilling meal.

Health & Safety:
While I have never felt unsafe on campus or in the 5 points area, safety has been a concern on campus and downtown. There have been multiple instances where people have been robbed and held at gun point, but the police are always on it right away, and the school sends every student an alert ASAP.
College Junior 2013-06-19T00:33:30Z
Unfortunately, I have not seen much diversity on the USC campus. But even though I have not seen it, that does not mean it is not there. I'm sure there are many different races and religions on campus since USC has such a big student body.

All of the off-campus housing around USC is very affordable and close to campus. Unfortunately, none of the apartments are in walking distance to the campus, but each apartment usually has a shuttle to campus each school day.

As an IB major, I will be interning with business owners who are from around the world. time commitment is key, and hours can be rigorous, but it is all for the bigger purpose of a brighter successful future.
College Sophomore 2013-06-18T20:57:34Z
Getting into IB is very tough and as they say, cut-throat. IB at USC is #1 in the nation so given, they do not make it easy for students because the program wants the best of the best and those who are willing to give their all for their future. The most important criteria for admission would be credits, GPA, extra-curriculars, initiative, and spunk. The application process is nothing abnormal. Any tips would be to try your best in all courses, and to become as involved as possible in the university.

As an International Business major, I can vouch that all courses are challenging, but all for the best outcome. Mathematics has not been a favorite of mine through this process, though I have loved all english courses I have taken. My personal favorite courses hands down, have been all language courses I have taken from french to portuguese to german and mandarin. College is an experience that everyone must have, and trust me, unless you fail out, you will not want to redo it again, because it is fully and completely a whirlwind of an experience. I aspire to travel the world working with today's major businesses and doing what I do best. With the USC experience, my career goals are even more promising.

USC is in the heart of downtown Columbia, SC. Given this placement, off-campus dining is excellent. From The Vista to Five Points you can find all ranges of restaurants from grungy to fancy and cheap to expensive. Off-campus dining at USC offers the best for anyone's taste.
College Sophomore 2013-06-18T20:17:03Z
Considering my major is International Business, I have received top notch education as USC is #1 in the USA for the IB intended major. The professors at USC are hands on, and if they see the students care about their work, professors will do their best to make things run as smoothly as possible. The work is not easy, but with the right mindset, professors agree that success can be prominent.

In Columbia, the weather offers the best of each of the four seasons. Hot summers, chilly autumns, cold winters with no snow, and colorful springs allow for an amazing environmental experience.

As a transfer student I do not get scholarships from the school

People in the office do a great job working with the students. Wish I could qualify for more fin. aid though....

Head to 5 points or the Vista. Great bars and clubs for all ages

Great shuttles but tend to not follow a schedule! Great campus, though, because you can walk just about any where in 20 min or less

The winters are very mild but there can be some very cold days. It does snow here occassionally. Winter clothing is necessary.
The summers are extremely hot and humid to the point that many days are miserable and dangerous from the point of heat illness. You will definitely need to stay hydrated and have air conditioning in your living space.
College Senior 2013-06-04T18:25:10Z
You do need a car to get around the town of Columbia but not on campus because there is a shuttle system or most people just walk to class. There are also never enough parking spaces on campus. The police will quickly ticket your vehicle or have it towed if there are any violation of the parking regulations. Most parking spaces are not convenient to classes. You can buy a permit for a parking garage but these can be costly.

There are many cultural and ethnic groups represented at the University of South Carolina. I personally am friends with Chinese, Japanese, and Arabic students as well as people from various parts of Europe and Africa. Many students wear traditional clothing from their their homelands and I have never seen them suffer any ridicule from other students.
There is generally a relaxed attitude towards the LGBT community. They are involved in a great variety of organizations on campus and in the surrounding university area.

There are numerous computer labs on the campus. However, they are almost always fully occupied. The student really needs to have their own personal computer to ensure assignments are completed in a timely manner. The school network is very reliable with great speed and wireless access. However, it watches everything you access and even blocks some sites. This is the reason I prefer to use my own network for browsing.

The quality of campus housing depends on which style of dorm the student is assigned.
In the most basic layout, a student must share a bedroom and bathroom with another student. This affords little privacy and is best suited for students with common interests.
The suite-style dorm provides the student with their own bedroom but they must share a bathroom with the other roomate.
The apartment-style dorm is similar to the suite-style except that it has a kitchen and a common living area with couches, chairs, and dining tables.
The cost of the dorms vary from approximately $1800 for the most basic style to $3800 for the apartment style per semester. Many upperclassmen decide to live off campus because it is less costly to share living expenses with a roommate. I, myself, share an off campus apartment with a roommate. I have my own bedroom, bathroom, and walk-in closet. We have a shared kitchen and living room space. The apartment is also equipped with a washer and dryer in the unit which is very convenient.
Freshmans, however, are required to live on campus for their their first year unless they have acceptable reasons to the contrary such as age or health-related conditions.

The University of South Carolina's Darla Moore School of Business was ranked #1 in the country for its undergraduate program in International Business in 2011 by US News and World Report. It has had 15 consecutive Number 1 rankings for this program.

Parking is really hard if you dont want to pay for a spot, on street parking is patrolled by ticketers everyday!

The library has great computers: both mac and pc labs. Although, due to how many students are always in the library, it's hard to EVER find an open computer! I find myself having to go to computer labs in far away buildings like the engineering building. Besides this, the computers work well.

Health & Safety:
During the day, I feel pretty safe. At night, I would never walk alone... not even with other girls. I would have to have a guy with me at all times. Because USC is in downtown Columbia, I hear of many "Carolina Alerts", as we call them, of people getting raped and robbed right on campus!
College Junior 2013-06-04T00:48:21Z
Everyone goes crazy over football- tailgates, dressing up, cheering, etc. But where football excels, other sports do not. Although we have an AMAZING baseball team (two time world camps woop woop!) barely any of my friends ever go! And don't even get me started on basketball..... I couldn't name a single basketball player's name!
Sorry, there are no reviews.
