The places around campus are all good places to eat. They can get tiring, but you can't get picky when you're low on money or are on a meal plan.

I received a good amount of financial aid from the university. I recommend checking up on your financial aid status regularly, just to make sure things are going smoothly, and to reduce any future hassle.

Health & Safety:
Campus Security is committed to keeping everyone safe. However, I always have someone walk with me at night, just in case. Keep your doors locked to avoid having your things stolen.

There are a few 18-and older clubs, and a few 21+ available downtown. It's a good environment, and there are cabs and shuttle services. However, it's still best to be careful and have a buddy system.
College Senior 2013-05-09T01:44:34Z
The cops can be strict when they want to be. Lately they have been getting worse and worse with underage tickets. As long as you are 21 you should be fine, if 18 be careful

Do NOT live in the Woodlands of Columbia. The places are beautiful but the staff and service suck. The staff lies and does whatever is necessary to avoid the problem, and if you have an issue they will lie if they must or not supply you with bills in order to get you to stop bugging them. The shuttles don't run at the times they say and people are loud and rude at all hours of the night and all week. There is nothing you can do about it either because no one on staff wants to be responsible. If you sign a lease and one person bails, BEWARE they might just cancel your lease, then lie and say you wanted to sublet. Then promise you a great roommate but give you the wrong style apartment and a nightmare of a roommate.

Health & Safety:
The Health and Safety at USC is a priority and systems around camous can be used to alert police, as well as late night transportation and helpful information sessions

As a member of the Greek community I have gained many opportunities to serve my community and have gained a family away from home.

I'm a Civil Engineering major and believe that USC has a great Engineering program. I would like to see some surveying classes though.

I am not apart of Greek life but they always have a function going on and are quite welcoming to outsiders. They have done a ton of great things for the school and the students.
College Senior 2013-04-30T14:18:17Z
The transportation around school is very convenient because they have bus schedules at every stop with the route and most of all, they're free! They are constantly running and easy to map out around the campus.

Greek life is definitely present on campus at USC. There are TONS of options, so it is not hard to get a bid into a sorority/fraternity if you want. Although people do not always get their top pick, they always seem happy in the one they end up in. Also, the size of each sorority/fraternity is really big so there are gonna be good and bad people in both (I've found that there aren't really any stereotypes when it comes to our greek life because everyone has a different opinion depending on who they have interacted with). Greek village is located on the outskirts of campus but the houses are very nice, and I have heard that they are expanding. I think that most non-greeks don't mind Greek life, just think that it is not for them. There are, of course, some people who think that anything Greek is obnoxious. It's nice to have some friends who are Greek to get into their parties and have their drivers pick you up. I think that girls can pretty much get into any party regardless of whether they are Greek or not, but I'm not sure if it's quite as easy for guys.

Drugs is pretty much limited to tobacco and marijuana, usually involving hookahs. Alcohol is very prevalent, but I've never felt pressure to drink. If you are involved in Greek Life, expect to be around it.

There are a ton of complexes with a huge variety of prices, whether you want an apartment, cottage, or house. The Off-Campus Housing fair is a great resource and is held near the beginning of the spring semester. Safety is what you would expect in a city (i.e. lock your doors, don't leave stuff in your car, never walk alone at night, etc.)
College Sophomore 2013-04-28T15:40:40Z
At midlands technical college most students are either living with their family still or they are just now starting to rent. The help at tech is zero. They do not care about this aspect of school. They are very unhelpful and just direct you to websites. If you ask them to help you they will continue to direct you to websites. They also are fine with putting their students in bad and unsafe neighborhoods. Not professional at all!

Parking is awful. You pay over $300 per semester for a garage spot that is still first come first serve, or you can get a commuter pass but with so much new construction we have lost our parking lots around campus. PLUS parking is SO far away, its almost pointless. Commuter passes are good for an entire year but $80 for no parking is pointless. Get to campus an hour before classes and just find somewhere to study... because you will miss class if you get to campus 30 minutes or less before your class.

There are so many majors and schools.... even though this is a very large state school, teachers and professors make you feel like you have a personal relationship.

The campus is great but the city of Columbia has little going on for it. Carolina MAKES the city...
College Sophomore 2013-04-25T12:59:22Z
They give many opportunities to earn scholarships.
College Sophomore 2013-04-25T12:57:54Z
They are extremely strict on campus, especially when it comes to danger or public disruption. They are always cops around so it really makes me feel safe.

I am not really into sports but the gym is huge and a lot of people are fit here so I could only imagine how the athletes operate.
College Sophomore 2013-04-24T15:13:33Z
This place offers anything a student could ask for, from athletic facilities, libraries, clubs and organizations, gardens/parks, friendly employees and the normal southern hospitality everyone seems to get. Not to mention the ability to get anything you need supply wise from all the stores like CVS, and the bookstore.
College Sophomore 2013-04-24T14:56:23Z
With how much money this University puts into its sports program, the athletics department has some of the nicest gyms and facilities that I have ever seen. Alongside that comes the importance of student health, they give us two amazing gyms that could have anything that any student could possibly want to do.
College Sophomore 2013-04-24T14:52:38Z
The reason I give them a C+ is because they have so many students attending the University that all the parking spots are quickly taken. Also the parking in garages and other locations can be very tedious to get into when every one is attempting to park at once. And since there are not that many places to park its quite easy to get a ticket.
College Sophomore 2013-04-19T19:50:47Z
I give this section an A+ due to the amount of variety they have around the campus. On the outskirts of campus, you can find pizza, mexican food, chinese, and even fast food places to eat. In any given direction, you can choose to have any food you desire.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
