I moved here from the West Coast so it is hard not to compare to the large cities and the opportunities california offers however, the fact I am new to Columbia make it exciting. To me there is a lot to see and do because I am new. However, sometimes it is frustrating when there aren't the large retailers like Apple or Ikea here and the closest is over an hour away.

There is a good nightlife for both undergrads and graduate students. Though the scene for the younger crowd is getting a reputation for being dangerous. However, the Vista is a good place to go for a more sophisticated and older crowd but is still fun.

The Varsity sports hear are a big deal. Football season is in the fall but you are consistently hearing about it all year long. The baseball team is really good here also. It is nationally ranked and everyone flocks to see them play.

They are pretty good about giving discounts and incentives. There is not a huge variety but its manageable. Grilled Teriyaki is probably the best place to eat in five points and its half off after midnight so you can grab a snack after partying.

Very good array of academics, Moore School of Business is ranked #1 for the undergraduate IB (international business) program.

Off campus dining options offer a good variety, but there aren't that many of them.

I'm a Political Science major and thoroughly enjoy the coursework and discussion that covers a broad array of current world political topics.

The rain makes the campus flood. and when it rains here it pours

Food isn't very good. The meal plan is awful. You cannot fit a decent amount of food on a meal swipe. On the weekends nothing is open.

When it is sunny, it is amazing. It occasionally rains for long periods of time and it isn't fun.

Housing is scarce after freshman year, but it's nice.

Nightlife is for students who are 21 or older. There are a few 18-and-older clubs, but I say skip the clubs. House parties are free, the music is better, and you don't have to pay for a cab back to campus. Your best bet is a school party here at Temple or at Penn, Drexel, Villanova, and other neighboring schools or with friends that live off campus

I had to maintain a 3.0 GPA to keep my scholarship and get into the business program.

I'm currently in the business program and love it.

There are lots of different places to live. It's very easy to find off-campus housing

A car is necessary if you want to drive to the nearest store like Wal-Mart or Target. However, you could go to the local stores that are within walking distances and use the shuttle bus to get to class.

Shuttle bus are really helpful to get students to class on time.

Guys & Girls:
The best thing about USC is the sheer size of this place! You want to find someone who is into your favorite TV show? EASY! I've found it's also really easy to strike up conversation with people because of all the cafes around. Or even in the elevators and things like that. Plus, a lot of boys are southern, and very polite!

I have not had an internship yet but I am applying for one as a Public Relations Major. It would be nice to have more help from the office, but we did get almost daily e-mails for unpaid internships around Columbia. This summer I plan to work for an either paid or unpaid internship in Public Relations so I can narrow down what type of marketing I want to do.

it is a lot of work, but it is well worth the time.

There are very few parking spaces for students unless you pay to park in a garage (which is expensive!). Meter spots are hard to come by, and you have to be really careful to pay the meter on time or you will get a ticket.
Recent Alumnus 2013-02-18T17:54:14Z
USC has a pretty great bus system running throughout the day, but parking is definitely an issue. There are very few areas for student parking anywhere near campus.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
