Theres lots of variety on campus, which is something many schools may lack. What's most important to me is that there are healthy options and The University of South Carolina definitely provides that.

The student life on campus at the University of South Carolina (Columbia) is AWESOME! Not only are you surrounded by beautiful scenery and atmosphere, but there are tons of great places to eat, study or just hang out. The storm thurmond fitness and wellness center makes me feel so spoiled because its huge and offers so much! Also, the library is awesome and provides lots of help. Although the school is huge, there are SO many places to go to seek guidance and advice.

Everyone gets sick of the student union but there are other great places and even some late-night options like cafe verde

Absolutely beautiful. Sunny most of the time and always warm without having the insane heat of somewhere like Texas.

I have enjoyed all of my Psychology classes. It took me a few tries to find the right major for me.

I am an Accounting major. All of the business majors at USC are extremely reliable and pretty rigorous. USC has one of the top business schools in the country. At one point it was ranked #2 out of all the schools in the country. I feel pretty confident that I will have earned a sufficient education by the time I graduate with my Accounting degree. Business is a safe choice, especially in today's economy. Choose your major wisely and think ahead. Earn a degree that will offer you many job opportunities.

While on campus, you should have enough time to walk to your next class. USC offers campus transportation that has different loops and pick up locations. If you live off campus you might need a car. There are some parking lots on campus that you can purchase permits for but they are not always reliable and very expensive. Many of the off campus student apt communities offer shuttles that run from that apt community directly to campus.

Campus police and Columbia police are pretty strict about underage drinking and minor possession. I've heard of a lot of kids getting ticketed while using a fake ID at the downtown bar area called 5 Points. You are more likely to get caught using marijuana if you live in on-campus housing because housing monitors will report you if they smell anything from your room. USC judicial office has been know to kick students out of the university for having tickets for alcohol or drug use on their records. A friend of mine got kicked out because his roommate was involved in selling illegal substances.

Guys & Girls:
The guys mostly dress and act southern, but you have a good mix of everything else. The girls are just about the same way. The percentage of boys/girls who are involved in greek life is less than those who are not involved in greek life.

The dining halls aren't that bad and the food off campus is pretty good.

There aren't a lot of drugs around but a lot of people drink... a lot.

Plenty of Fast Food – You can find several restaurants just located on the outside of the campus. Just a few feet away from campus you will find, pizza restaurants, Mexican food, fast food burger places, and many sub/sandwich spots which are the most popular among the students at USC-Columbia. The pricing of the restaurants are a bit costly and somewhat convenient. Right off campus, many fast food locations surrounds the area. These restaurants offer little student discounts sadly. The best place to check out is no doubt the Beezer's Sandwich Shop. Cheap subs, offering free delivering and on top of that great offer, it's convenient enough to open until 3 a.m.

Here at USC, there are always alcohol and/or drugs presentable during the weekends. Almost every social event consists of alcohol and drugs, it is a huge part of the social life here at USC. Peer pressure is not as great, but compared to many other situations, fraternities and sororities may differ in that part. The policies at the University requires students to take a test before entering the school and officially enrolling. Although these policies to restrict alcohol and drugs varies in strictness from different residence halls

Campus living is definitely what you make it. Not that there are plenty of flaws or excellent facilities but there are obvious differences between different residence halls. Becoming friends with your floormates early on could make the biggest difference. The housing process is very simple, and direct. There should be no troubles, the school does a good job on organizing and making sure everyone has proper instructions to complete the process. Make sure to construct a specified roommate contract when you move in, as directed by your resident mentor. The social atmosphere in these dorms could range from quiet silent halls, to the most outgoing places, it all depends on the people on your floor and the comfort level you guys all share. The best thing to do is to get to know everyone early on before the school year starts. Being on campus means costly living. Convenience is obvious and there are nearby restaurants and facilities that are helpful to accommodate your needs.

It is a struggle to find a parking spot when class is about to get out or start. You will have to give yourself some time but you'll find a spot.

Beautiful! Mostly sunny! In the mornings it's pretty chilly but usually after morning classes it gets warmer. It tends to rain a fair amount but nothing too bad.

Guys & Girls:
The guys are of all types: redneck, preppy, partiers, fratty, and very sweet. The girls are about the same as the guys.

There is usually something to every night. You must be at least 18 years old. Not everything is 21 and up, but a lot are.

Health & Safety:
I rarely feel unsafe on campus but I also don't go walking around campus at midnight. There are Emergency beacons all over campus that you can get to within seconds if you ever feel endangered. Each beacon also has a security camera on it.

South Carolina's central hub, the campus union, called Russel House was newly renovated and contains a variety of dining choices, and is very modern. The drawback being it is large enough to accommodate huge numbers of students that come during the lunch crowd, it could be quite hectic finding a place a to sit. But it is great other than the lunch crowd there is plenty of room to sit, surrounded by your fellow Gamecocks.

The school is large, and is home to so many people from different backgrounds, different countries, or even different ideals. The school also has excellent faculty and if you are interested in scientific research there is some fascinating research being conducted around campus. There is something for everyone, it just takes exploring. Another great part is the variety of groups and organizations that can be found around campus, each dedicated to a different thing, but with the purpose to bring similar minded people together.

Carolina Dining, Great? Most of the Times. The Dining on Campus is good, but you have to pick and choose what you get. The hotline is bad some days, but there are many other options to choose from. Chicken Finger Wednesdays are a must, it is the best meal of the week.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
