There are plenty of options when choosing a fraternity or sorority and it is something that most people at least try. The non greek students dont really mind greek life, I think some of them are against because they dont really know it or understand it. It is a huge part of USC but is not necessary in enjoying your college career.

Health & Safety:
Unfortunately the area that USC- Columbia is located at is a dangerous area but the campus police and the city police are doing everything they can to make it safer.

I been attending this university for 3 months and overall their has been no problems. It is a convenience distance from my home to school. The cost to attend this school is fair.

The University of SC of Columbia has 7 surrrounding satellite campuses. It also houses the largest collection of Robert Burns and Scottish literature materials outside of Scotland and the largest Ernest Hemingway collection in the world. Since SC was the first to sucede from the Union, the University has historical buildings. The State House is only a few blocks away. Designated as one of the 100 Best Values in Public Education by Kiplinger's Personal Finance magazine, USC also ranks among U.S. News & World Report's best national public institutions. It offers more than 75 degree programs

USC is surrrounded my all types of entertainment. The zoo is only a few minutes away. There are about 3 athlettic stadiums surrounding the college and several colliseiums that always have free concerts. Outdoor recreational activities such as canoeing and rock climbing are within a few blocks. The campus has on-site restaurants of all types. Students don't have to travel far to find shopping malls.

Health & Safety:
USC has on-campus sheriff officers. There is plenty of lighting all of the campus. Students are constantly given safety tips and can attend workshops to increase awareness. The emergency notification systems keeps students informed quickly when hazards arise.

Awesome team spirit. Lots of supportive events to encourage team players and fans. We have huge training facilities that have flexible hours.

I live on campus, so all of my classes are in walking distance ranging from 5-10 minutes away. If you're classes happen to be a little further away, buses run throughout the day at more than 3 different locations to transport students. There are also shuttles available whenever there's a need for them. As far as long-distance transportation, a car may be a good investment. Having a car on campus leads to higher cost especially with parking and it may be an inconvenience trying to find parking during class time.

To begin there are not that many dorms rooms to fill and there are many students attending the University. Also, this is an older, older college and some of the dorms are pretty old. The staff does a great job of keeping it clean but we have some nasty students that just messes it back up. In efforts of making students life better the University is going to rebuild some of the older dorms making it anew.

There are so many historical buildings downtown. As you walk, drive, or bicycling around there are signs or old buildings that gives you an insight to the state. Also, there is always some type of event going on for various crowds. There are malls in every which directions for those that love to shop. Then we have the food, which is awesome; there are so many different resturants to eat from when you get sick of campus food. The night life is good as well, there are so many bars, pub, and clubs that you and your friends can go out to and just relaxs and relieve all the stress that comes with school.

There are plenty of apartments around campus, some close enough to still walk to classes and some about a 15 minute drive away just depends what you're looking for. All that i know of have their own parking lots but some of these lots are not well guarded and people breaking into cars isn't too uncommon.

Health & Safety:
If you aren't dumb you SHOULD be fine. It is downtown columbia so of course there is crime around but if you take certain steps you should be able to avoid it. There are safety buttons all over campus and it's very well lit so it's not bad on campus at night, the main crimes happen in five points because people are drunk and stupid and easy to rob. Also keep your stuff with you at all times because people will pretend to be students and walk around waiting for people to leave their backpacks or computers lying around then casually just take them and walk away

Russel is the main dining hall and it has good food but you definitely get tired of eating there every day so it's necessary to mix it up every now and then. I recommend the mega flex meal plan because even though it is expensive it works the best for me personally because with the regular meal swipes you can only use one in an allotted time period so if you get hungry at 12 then want something else at 4 you have to use carolina cash or bonus bucks which is ridiculous in my opinion
College Sophomore 2012-11-06T16:39:37Z
There is a great computer help center that I have used multiple times so far. The staff there are some of the nicest people on campus and really know what they are doing. The only problem with technology that I have found is that sometimes the wifi can get a little solw.

Guys & Girls:
There are a lot of different people on campus, from typical Frat and Sorority types, to the Athletes, Skaters, Artists, and Overacheivers. You will find attractive people in each group. Some kids spend a lot of time on looks each day, but the majority of girls wear running shorts and nike sneakers to classes.
College Sophomore 2012-11-06T16:30:57Z
The police understand it's a college campus, so they are not really out to get students. However, if you are being obnoxious, they will take action.
College Sophomore 2012-11-05T05:25:14Z
There are a lot of places to get food on campus, but I've found that a lot of it is all the same, which gets boring. But it's usually pretty good.
College Sophomore 2012-11-05T05:23:31Z
Some people smoke, but it's not a huge thing. More people like to drink than anything. But from what I've noticed, it's really easy to get away with smoking in the most obvious of places.

Nightlife at USC is awesome. From frat parties, to house parties, to Greek Village, to the crazy and infamous Five-Points, there is always something going on. There are always options for safe transportation and many fun places to get a drink and get a little crazy.
College Sophomore 2012-10-30T18:00:53Z
There are so many options for places to use computers at USC it is hard to find a place to start. Most dorms have really high tech computer labs, you can rent out MacBooks at the library, there are thousands of desktops at the library, including a MacLab that is very high tech.

As most people that follow football can tell you, Gamecock football is a huge part of being a student here. Other sports have a lot of fans, but there's nothing like being one of the 90,000 people in Williams-Brice on a football Saturday.
College Junior 2012-10-29T05:28:01Z
The only sport focused on is football, then baseball just because they won the national championship two years in a row. The fan base for football and baseball is strong but not for other sports.

Tons of off campus living options. Also most of them include shuttles to and from campus. Cost is a bit steep compared to on campus living, but all of the off campus options are nice and usually include a utility cap.
College Junior 2012-10-29T05:23:28Z
Good options from Wednesday to Saturday nights. Five Points gets quite crowded but everyone still goes anythings. Carolina Cab is helpful transportation.
College Junior 2012-10-29T05:21:41Z
Lots of available labs and tech support at the Russell House. They charge for printing, but it's not ridiculous - only like 10 cents for black and white prints and 25 cents for color. The network sometimes gets jammed but it's been a lot better since the ticketing system got changed.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
