Most Programs Suck, but Some Are Fantastic – The fact is that USC is a mediocre to bad state school serving a lot of kids who got horrible public educations in one of the worst states in the country. They have a few brilliant programs, like the business school, and then there's everything else. Your classmates are likely very stupid and lazy and your professors know this, making the academic work far from challenging. There are options for independent studies, but at some point you just should read books on your own time.

Lots of Housing, Especially If You Can Drive – Columbia is not really a public transportation city and it's so hot that biking and walking long distances are not totally feasible. If you've got a car and are willing to deal with the truly horrific parking situation at the school, your housing options are limitless. Cheap, safe, houses, apartments, decent landlords, lots of space.

Guys & Girls:
Dumb, Drunk, Boring, and Entitled – I suppose if your idea of fun is to get wasted and taken advantage of by 19 year old frat boys who think they are hot before they can grow facial hair or to nail crunchy, straw hair dye-bottle blondes and never have an interesting conversation... then you might be able to look past the fact that they are also monstrously stupid, lazy, and full of themselves.

Russell House – The Russell House is constantly providing events throughout the year for students, backed by Carolina Productions which is responsible for bringing in big name performers and Movies that are shown in the theatre.

Renovations Renovations Renovations! Several of the buildings are set to be renovated in the near future, especially the dorms. But currently, the facilities either have an old-timey feel that goes with the history of the school, or everything inside is super high-tech and electronic!

Be Smart About It – If you are smart about what you do, or simply be responsible and don't go running around with drugs, alcohol or weapons(especially if you are underage) you should be fine. But to be safe, just keep the stuff out of your dorms!

Cool Campus – University of South Carolina Columbia is a really interesting campus and is a grab-bag of old and new facilities. The music building is really nice, with a beautiful library. The campus is very close to a lively downtown area, with lots of great places to eat and hang out.

Teachers Are Really Invested in Students – The teachers are very invested in students and will really give their all to assist you in any way possible. The faculty are inviting and warm, and will not hesitate to ask you if you need help.

You May Be Placed in an Old Dorm – Some dorms are great to live in like East Quad, West Quad, South Quad, or the Honor Colleges. These dorms are mostly for upperclassmen but are available to some freshmen. Some freshmen dorms like Bates House and McBryde are just ridiculously old and worn down. The Roost (houses transfer students, used to house freshmen males) seems like its 30 mins from campus. But overall the housing is average at best.

Shuttles Can Be Convenient – There are specific shuttles (Green, Blue, Yellow, etc) that transport students to certain locations on campus. They run from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM. They are suppose to run every 15 mins but some times the stops can be longer. After hours their are smaller shuttles that will take you to your preferred destination on campus.

The weather is OK. It's very hot during the first couple of weeks, but after that the weather is very comfortable.

Lots of Off-Campus Fun! Right next door to USC are two hopping places. One minute down the road is Five Points and 2 minutes down the road is the Vista. Five Points has over 30 college bars and the Vista has just under 20 resturants and bars! Great places to be! Student discounts are everywhere.

Garnet and Black Traditions – USC is constantly progressing forward and students have great opportunities to explore their academic potential as well as participate in the school's historic traditions. A specific program that stands out is the Darla Moore School of Business. Professors are not only well spoken in the classroom but also possess real-world experience in the field.

There are many convenient parking garages on USC's campus, however, they come with extremely expensive fees per semester. If you don't have a parking permit, the city of Columbia is very strict about the meter parking on campus and have no problem issuing tickets. However, you can walk everywhere on USC's campus and there is no dire need for a car.

Life in Gamecock Country – The University of South Carolina is home to some of the richest history of the state of South Carolina. With the exception of a few historical buildings that have to be left untouched, all the facilities are up to date. Student life at USC is partially made better because of the amazing buildings that are on campus. Never too far of a walk and always filled with students enjoying 211 year old traditions of the school.

Parking is very urban and difficult to find a spot.

I would say that the nighlife at USC is very lively for those who like to party at clubs. But personally, I am more for having fun with small groups of people.

Parking is horrible when trying to get to classes on time. There is not enough space. Chances are you are more likely to get a ticket by the time you return to your car.

Off Campus Living – I have not lived on campus @ USC. I live off-campus

Health & Safety:
Never Walk Alone at Night – Although South Carolina has emergency call stations within a 360 degree view everywhere on campus, I've never felt safe walking alone at night. The campus is very big and spread out. Take advantage of resources like the Carolina Cab which runs all night and can take students anywhere within a 5 mile radius of campus for free.

College City &Amp; Capital – Almost everything in Columbia, SC is revolved around the Gamecocks. Football and baseball are a huge deal and people get pretty worked up about it. Columbia is also the capital so visiting the state house is a pretty cool attraction. The school campus is very spread out, but there are emergency call stations within a 360 degree view of wherever you are on campus. Five Points is the popular night scene and can be very dangerous if you're not careful.

Newer Dormitories – The overall best and nicest dorm is the Honors, followed by the Quads, then Patterson. The honors dorm is specifically reserved for Honors College students only, but if your roommate attends the college you can cheat your way into living there. Also, with a majority of the students in this dorm attending the honors college-it is extremely quiet. The Quads is also one of the newer and nicer dorms and offers apartment style living. Patterson was recently remodeled and is an all girls dorm. It's also located in the heart of campus. Obviously the newer, nicer dorms will be more expensive than the older ones. I lived in an older dorm and still ended up loving it because of the people I met on my hall and building.

Safe Atmosphere – If you sign up with the Carolina Alert, you receive emails and text when there is something wrong like a robbery.

Restaurants Are Everywhere – There are many restaurants that are available outside of campus. If you are studying late at the library and decide to order pizza then it only takes about 10 mins.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
