Guys & Girls:
Very Diverse – There is a very large variety of the students that attend USC. A lot of southerners, but more northerners than you would expect. There are also a lot of foreign students.

Sports at USC are huge. Gamecock pride is easy to spot all over campus. The football team gets a tremendous amout of support and brings a lot of fans to Williams Brice on Saturdays. Other sports are always open events too and there are reminders all over campus for thier meeting times. GO COCKS!

Always Something to Do – As my U101 teacher told my class, "you can find a party going on on campus all hours of every day." Parties are usually the best option, whether is a frat or house party. There is only one club downtown that is always 18 and up. It's ok if you really want to dance, but not much fun.

I was nervous when first going to USC because I was scared about it being such a big school. I admit that at first I felt some what insignificant because a lot of my classes had 100+ students in them, so there wasn't much contact with the professors. A few weeks into the semester though, once I got the hang of my classes and began making friends, it became a much better experience. Now, I love USC. If I had to do it all over again, I would still choose USC. It's the greatest school and I love its location in the city of Columbia.

Cool Things in Not So Obvious Places – The most obvious place for college kids to go would be Five Points, which is the bar scene. However, there is more to Columbia, and, if you search a little, you can find other cool things to do such as shagging at Jillian's, volunteering at Pets Inc., shopping at Columbiana Mall, or running in Grandby Park.

Great Dorms – From my experience touring other colleges, the University of South Carolina has excellent dorms. Most are relatively new and clean. Patterson was most recently re-innovated, so the building is the nicest. Capstone and Preston have the best sense of community. The Roost should be avoided at all costs.

The University of South Carolina offers the Capstone Scholars program, which a truly unique experience. The program is about 60% out of state students, so you meet people from all over the country. The program pushes you to try new things, give back to your community, and leave a legacy at the school. I cannot imagine what my freshman year would have been like without it.

Bull Street Is Great – I think that parking is pretty good considering that I live in Charleston and downtown Charleston parking is horrible. I think that there are many spots in Columbia and the walk to class or your dorm is not far at all. Bull Street Garage is very cheap and it always has parking in it.

A Great Campus for Great Students – The Facilities at the University of South Carolina are state of the art, the athletic facilities especially always have students working in them and improving themselves and the campus.

The Food Plan System – The Campus Dining is not that great. First the food plan is terrible. Almost any meal you get somehow goes over the allotted price of either breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Therefore, student have to pay the difference with cash, carolina cash, or bonus bucks. This defeats the purpose of having a meal plan. There are some places that do not even accept the meal plan and solely want cash. In addition, the times of meals are not convenient for students. For example, lunch closes at 3:59 but I have encountered many times where I would go to the Russell House, a dining hall, and there was no food out at 2:00! Lastly, during the week they have the same specials for each day, such as Chicken Finger Wednesday and Barbecue Thursday. The dining options are repetitive, overpriced, and inconvenient.

Eat, Sleep, Class, Repeat – I decided to attend the University of South Carolina because it has an overall great academic program, especially in nursing. The professors make a great effort to help students one on one. They provide a significant amount of work that is not too overwhelming. Not only do the professors provide their office hours for extra help, but so do the teacher's assistants. This gives busy students a flexible schedule to fit studying in. The campus is big, but not gigantic. Most of the buildings are clustered together rather than being spread out. This brings an enormous amount of convenience for the students. The Thomas Cooper Library is big enough for accommodating students. It has over 5 floors, a couple are dedicated to quiet studying and the others allow group studying. There are even private group and single study rooms. The University of South Carolina makes it their best to supply students with all the help they can get.

Campus dining is pretty legit. They have the cafeteria of course. The most popular dining is in Russell House. They have places like Burger King, Chickfila and such. They have some nice upscale places to eat if you are not one that is on the meal plan.

All Is Close by – Large enough but not so large to you feel lost. A lot of things to do within a 10-15 mile radius.

Even in college you have your clicks. It is easy to make friends and get along with others. The school isn't that diverse in religious beliefs because most are Christian, including myself. There is Ethnical diversity because no one is just one race, or come from one background. I'm am not rich but found myself becoming good friends with my "rich" roomate and her friends. They are nice and understanding. Not the stereotypical rich kid.

There are many apartments available around the campus. Some can be pricey but the closer you are the more the cost. one set of apartments are for university students only. It is great to try and get a room there because you meet more people who attend your school and its just like a suite style dorm with more privacy and independence.

Eye Opener – Compared to my previous college, USC has way more going on - more things to do. It's difficult at times to prioritize studies over leisure time. I love being off campus in an apartment vs dorms. USC is unique because it is large but has a friendly atmosphere. There is a great deal of opportunities to be had in Columbia, SC. I would choose USC again if I had to do it over.

Great Instructors – USC have some of the best Art instructors. They love you create art as much as a student and they are very passionate about it. They do not mind helping you if you have questions and most have a flexible schedule.
I enjoy going to class and learning from them. Even one teacher encouraged me to the point to incorporate 3D design in my projects and they came out way better than I expected.

Hands on – My teacher has his own screen printing business and he doesn't mind the extra help, you just got to ask. No I never had an internship because I opened my own business doing graphic arts and had an extensive amount of clients.

Getting in! The process of entering into the Art Department was not hard, but maintaining creative skills can be a little difficult. I took many studio classes at once, and that created a lot of work, but I was able to keep my creative juices flowing. For my peers, they had way more trouble meeting deadlines and being creative.
Tips for admission: Think outside the normal art mind! Do something that would get someone's attention.

Guys & Girls:
If you want to go to college for girls, USC is where its at. Many people at USC guys and girls work out and eat healthy so they look good. There are a variety of people. There is everything from country kids, to hipsters. Thats not even counting the international kids.

Fall Time Is All About Football – USC is all about sports. We have a very high ranked football team, and the number one baseball team two years in a row. We have two gyms, both are very nice. Also the IM leagues are huge.

While I cannot speak for all majors, the academics inside the business school are relatively thorough and well-down.
College Junior 2012-04-30T15:51:42Z
Greeks Will Make Their Presence Known – Greek life is pretty big at USC. There are very few days when you don't run into a big group of them on the way to an event or a just an event sponsored by a Greek organizations.
College Junior 2012-04-30T15:47:37Z
Depends on the Professor – The quality of academics lives and dies by the professor. Good ones make the class worthwhile, while poor teachers hurt the reputation of the subject being studied. The Honors program has great professors that make learning more fun, but at the same time they tend to be either much harder or MUCH easier (ironically).

Recent Upgrades Are Amazing – The facilities at USC are pretty nice, well, the new ones at least. The recreational center, the Strom, is incredible. It has just about everything you can imagine inside, multiple basketball courts, a track, raquetball courts, ping pong, a huge rock climbing wall, and of course a nice weightroom. Other facilities can be nice, but they tend to be hit or miss.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
