Apartments in Columbia – Off-Campus housing selection in Columbia South Carolina is vast and extremely available. There are multiple apartment complexes near campus- about twenty- to choose from with a wide range of prices. The nicest apartments are close to campus but are terribly expensive. However, there are many choices farther away from campus that provide more affordable prices. Unfortunately, this adds conflict on transportation to campus. However, buses and parking passes are available. Overall, I have heard that the safety of off campus housing is fairly reliable with multiple county and campus policemen on duty and ready to help. Additionally, The University of South Carolina offers many informational brochures and groups that provide all the information needed in making a decision about off-campus living. There is even a website completely devoted to helping students prepare for off-campus living. Overall, The University of South Carolina does a wonderful job assisting students in finding living situations that will help them be the happiest and perform to the best of their abilities.

Its the South – Gorgeous weather all year long. There are a few days of cold, possibly snow in the winter, but temperatures rarely break freezing. All of my friends are jealous when we have a 70 degree night in February where everyone is outside doing stuff. If it snows classes always get cancelled, so you don't have to worry about walking in it, but its only snowed one time the entire time I've been here. Its always so nice out that I sometimes crave rain!

GO COCKS – USC is known for its amazingly impressive baseball team (back to back National Champs 2010 & 2011, with high hopes for this year!) as well as the football team. Saturdays in the fall are packed with tailgating, and tons of school spirit. Everyone here bleeds garnet and black, and this is definitely a school for football lovers. NOW is the time to be a gamecock.

Its a City Soo.. USC is located in the capital of South Carolina, so there are tons of dining options. You can find anything you want, but the quality of ethnic food might be questionable- it is the south after all.

Computer Options Are Exceptional – There are many computer labs that offer PCs and Macs to choose from. You can also rent Macs and PCs from the library. Each lab will have a printer to use. The wireless is usually reliable in the dorm, but not during high traffic hours; in the library and school buildings, it is very reliable.

Greek life is extremely pretentious and self-centered on campus. They hold predjudice against northerners which is not deserved and is very tasteless. Parties are not allowed to be held in the houses which is not very fun.

The division 1 athletic teams at the University of South Carolina are regular contenders in the Southeastern Conference. Our football team just finished with 11 wins, their best ever, and our baseball team is coming off of back to back national championships. The students are very involved in backing their teams and the teams are competing very well in all aspects of athletics at the present time.

Downtown, Athletics, Etc. The nightlife in Columbia, SC is very interesting. The college bar scene is very lively during Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights but is mostly limited to those that are 21 yoa or older. Aside from bars there are only apartment parties. The football games are a great time, but obviously are only in the fall. Other athletics do not play much of a role aside from baseball which is a sport that requires much more attention to stay involved in the game than football does. Shopping is mostly located in malls that are at least a 15 minute drive away. The students are basically secluded to the southern part of Columbia.

Love the Climate – Coming from the North, my transition to USC has been great! The people are friendly, the weather is fantastic, and the classes are wonderful!

If you live in one of the dorms on campus that are rather far from your classes, your best bet is to catch the Carolina Shuttle. The services they provide that tell you when they should arrive are a little unreliable, but they do show up eventually! At night, there are great night shuttles including the Alpha Phi Omega Duck Escort as well as the Carolina Night Shuttle so you can feel safe when getting around campus after dark.

Go Cocks!!! Gamecocks are absolutely GREAT at sports! Number 1 Baseball team in the country and talk about football! Going to games, especially during football season, is a MUST. They are fun, exciting and a great way to get involved.

I feel like my school really has a lot of hands on experience opportunities for any student. As well as, the ability to get involved. With so much stuff available you could become a part of anything, or start your own.

Health & Safety:
Fairly Safe – I have never felt scared when walking on campus by myself for a short distance. Though if I would have been going farther I would definitely have taken a buddy with me. It is a campus inside of a city there is going to be a lot going on, but the Campus Police are real police and surely take care of our campus!

Fairly Strict. The campus is fairly when it comes to things such as underage drinking and drug use, but other than that, the campus PD is here to help, and you can always call them and have them take you home if you ever need it.

Amazing Sports. Our football team was top notch this year, ranking 9th in the country overall, and beating out Nebraska in the Capital One Bowl. Our Baseball team is also going on to defend their national title for the third time this year, being back to back champions the last two seasons.

Greek life at USC is a weird situation, this year we had rush for frats shut down because of the excessive hazing and underage drinking, but the frat and sorority scene isn't overwhelming, so not being in a frat myself, I don't find that the campus social scene is dominated by the frats.

Guys & Girls:
Very Attractive. The people here at USC are very attractive, almost all the way across the board. I'm a student from the north, and the students here dress very preppy compared to what I'm used to, but it's nothing over the top.

Fitness Centers – The Strom Thurmond Fitness center is considered one of the best in the country, and even just after visiting the school, this was apparent. The other option is the Blatt PE center which doesn't have that state of the art equipment the Strom has, it still has pretty much everything you could ever look for to get a great workout.

Art History Course – I am taking an Art History course that I was told did not require any prior Art History knowledge. As it turns out the Professor is very difficult and the only students in the class that understand the contents are those who took prior classes. The good thing is I got help and attend an extra class taught by the Professor's TA's and I am getting a tutor (which is awesome at University of South Carolina). I hope to survive this class.

South Carolina is beautiful most of the time. However, it can get cold in the winter and my dorm has either no heat or it is sweltering. In the Spring and Fall the weather can get extremely hot and the air conditioning was broken (again) in my dorm. This has happened for two years. While the weather outside is fine, the dorms are not equipped to make it comfortable to be there for any period of time. I spend alot of time in the library or at the student center.

Health & Safety:
It depends on where you are on campus. If you are in the "heart" of campus, it is very safe. There are cameras within 20 feet with a security phone everywhere. However, I live in the Roost dorm, and it is very unsafe. As a man, I don't feel safe walking on that part of campus at any time. There is no security and it is almost off of campus.

The dining experience here at USC is great. Burger King, Chic-Fil-A, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell are just some of the many places to eat on campus.
College Junior 2012-02-21T19:06:43Z
On Campus Living – On campus living is great! Patterson is definitely the best dorm for girls because it is brand new. Other good dorms are Columbia, Capstone, and Sims. The cost is a little much for suite style dorms but it is worth it!!!

Dining at USC is wonderful! The food is delicious with a wide range of choices from healthy, to very unhealthy!

There are many computer labs around campus that are available to students. Printing on campus is also available too. The only complaint I have is the network reliability. The internet goes out all the time.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
