The academic feel of the University is great. The professors are always available, the curriculum is challenging enough to help students understand, and workloads are reasonable. Although you have to constantly check back for the availability of the courses you want, it is well worth it.

The transportation on the campus is pretty good, there are buses running 24 hours

South Carolina's weather can be very unpredicable. When it rains, it is miserable on campus. There are puddles everywhere! It sometimes gets really cold, but it rarely ever snows and if it does, classes are camceled. The humid heat from August to October and from April to finals is terrible. But, as the saying goes, if you can't take the heat, stay out of the kitchen!

Bus, Train, Automobile – No, there isn't really a train to ride on campus. There is a shuttle that has 3 or 4 different routes on campus and they usually make stops every 5 minutes. Cars are not a necessity, but if you live off campus its best to have one. Many apartments do have shuttles that drive to campus but they only make stops in the middle of campus. All shuttles are free.

I am not discouraging attending the university, but if you expect to be able to drive easily to class and find a spot in two seconds, you are sorely mistaken. If you can find a parking spot, it is insanely expensive and there is only a 2 hour limit, so if you have a lab, you will be screwed.

More or Less Satisfied – I am in the College of Education and I have been somewhat satisfied with my experience thus far. Some of my professors are not up to the caliber that I would expect of collegiate professors. For example, one of my "professors" is a retired librarian and this is her first time ever teaching anything, let alone a college course. However, I do have some extremely good and competent professors. All of my education professors are, or have done, research in the field that the course is about. They really care about the subject and they want you to learn the material and succeed.

Read the Rules! The campus has strict policies on conduct for the women's dormitories, academic consequences, and following the Carolina Creed. Consequences include being written up, having to do community service, attending workshops, as well as being suspended or even expelled from the university and students are expected to go online and read the handbooks on their own to know the rules and are still held responsible regardless.

I personally do not like living in USC housing. The building I stay in should have been renovated years ago. I have heard stories of students' grandparents who have stayed in the dorm and they say that it looks exactly the same, which is a huge concern. The rules are too strict about males staying in the dorm as well. The bathrooms are supposed to be cleaned everyday, but the showers and stalls are still found dirty. Students get along well on the hall and the dorms are located in convenient spots to easily get to classes and food halls. I am moving off of campus next semester because housing is too expensive for the quality of living.

Downtown Columbia Is a Great City – There are several things to do on campus as well as off of campus during the week and on weekends for students. Many students go to 5-Points or the Vista to hang out with their friends and go to clubs. There are many theaters and events that happen in the Columbia area and there are decent shopping malls that are no more than a 20 minute drive. USC sports are very entertaining and draw large crowds as well.

Close Knit Community – There's a close knit community between students that go to Carolina. It's like a sense of pride, and people have a bond just from going to Carolina together. The social scene is great, and the people are friendly. Carolina is a place like no other.

This school is expensive. Discounts exist but the prices are inflated. The prices around the area are raised because of campus business

The dining halls are very nice with lots of selection on menus. Meal plans are expensive but worth it

Complete Labs Wireless With Printing – Complete labs wireless with printing. great resource
College Junior 2012-01-11T18:00:35Z
Carolina Technology – I'm only aware of the computers in the library. There probably are other computer labs around campus though. However, I always find an available computer when I need one at the library. Also, printing is available at the library for only 10 cents a copy. The wireless connection in the dorms is not always reliable so you might have to buy an ethernet cord.

Health & Safety:
Carolina Safety – I have never been in harm on the University of South Carolina's campus. However, sometimes at night there are some areas which are not lighted very well. There are emergency buttons all over campus though. The university's police department also encourages students to call whenever they feel the need to!

Extremely Safe – There has never been a moment at the University of South Carolina that I have felt unsafe. The school does a great job of making us feel safe and comfortable

The city of Columbia has many options regarding transportation. The fees vary, some provide services, free of charge.

It is important at University Of South Carolina to maintain GPA. The school takes very seriously the reputation as well as the success of us students.

Football Games – Football season is a huge part of the USC college experience. It is more of a cultural even than anything. Our stadium is fairly large, holding about 80,000 people. Girls usually dress in black our garnet dresses (our school colors), while males dress in slacks and polo or a jersey. Compared to the other schools, it is definitely a unique experience.

Quite Good. Most off campus facilities provide a shuttle transportation to campus, thus eliminating students living on campus having to buy a parking spot on campus. USC it self provides various shuttle routes that takes students around.

Quite Popular. Greek life is fairly popular. A lot of people think it is a social and status thing, as about half of the incoming freshman class rushes.
College Junior 2012-01-07T03:03:05Z
Absolutely Amazing – As a Greek at USC, I can honestly say that if I could do it again, I wouldn't change a thing. In one semester I have not only made lifelong friends but also memories to last a lifetime! I was doubtful in high school, but I'm so glad I did it. I know my sisters have my back and the difference we make in the community is incredible! You won't regret it :)

Not Gonna Lie – Parking...horrible. Asked for a bike for Christmas.
College Junior 2012-01-07T02:52:46Z
Couldn't Be Better – USC helped me so much with scholarships that the only thing I pay for is books and parking. Because my father and I have no relationship, this is a huge relief! I can't thank my school enough :)
Sorry, there are no reviews.
