Kinda Sketchy – Columbia is the capital of Sc and the school is surrounded by the major parts of a town and if you travel a few blocks in every direction your basically in the ghetto. On campus is relitivley safe but at night it can be kind scary alone

Best Know What Your Doing Before Hand – I was jipped on financial aid and the school has done nothing to help even though i am in the office every week to get help they dont really care on if you can afford to be here or not.

Night Life – The nightlife In Columbia is give or take. Going to 5 points on the weekend can be dangerous or expensive but its mostly college students so its an ok atmosphere. For students under 21 it can be pretty dangerous with a fake id or drinking underage due to the excessive amount of police.

The computers here are great and there is a variety of places and types of computers available.

Be a Freshman. Freshmen get really good aid. Transfers not so much.

Bikes Are Good. Because the campus is rather large, it is best to have a bike, but many use to the buses to get to off-campus housing. No one complains about them though, and they have regular schedules.

In Columbia there are houses, apartments, and condos nearby the campus in all different price ranges really. Just depends on the situation.

No Strict Rules. There are no dress guidelines, etc. USC police force is well staffed.

It's Food. There are many different places to try..most are slightly costly. But the facilities are clean and such. Opting for off-campus restaurants is more popular.

Computer labs are never crowded. All equipment functions fine. Wifi is available.

Greek Life Has Awesome Parties – Fraternities and sororities on campus throw really awesome parties. Most of them take place in Granby, Olympia, or other nearby apartment complexes. They offer a variety of drinks and most have drinking games.

All Dorms Are Great – Upperclassman dorms are better as far as cleanliness and space. They're more apartment-style dorms. But freshman dorms tend to have a better social atmosphere. Most freshman dorms have open-door policies, so it's easy to meet people in you're hall.

Go to Qdoba in Five Points – The best place to hang out, right next to campus, is Five Points. It has various shops and awesome restaurants, the best of which includes Qdoba. It's a southwest-grill-type restaurant, similar to Moe's. The food is great, they offer a good variety of choices, and reasonable prices.

Student Centers Are Awesome – USC has a number of great facilities available to students. One of the most popular campus facilities is the main student center, Russell House. It's where most students go to relax between classes. It has a two story eating area, complete with a Burger King, Chick-Fil-A, Santorini's, Marble Slab Creamery, Einstein Bros Bagels, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, and various other meal options. In another part of Russell House is a Barnes & Noble and Starbucks, where students can get coffee, relax with a good book, watch television, read magazines, or study.

Being a Nursing Major Is Great! I feel honored and privileged to be a nursing student at USC. All the professors are really helpful, easy to talk to, and are actively involved in attending to each individual student's needs. The workload can be a little bit stressful at times, but it is pretty manageable if you seek assistance from professors and/or mentors. The curriculum is pretty easy to understand, but at the same time I feel like I'm learning a lot of useful information that will help me, both later on in my college career and in my future career as a nurse. The nursing school at USC provides a computer lab and study area exclusively for nursing students. Also, Academic Advisors keep students updated throughout the year (via email) on local internships and job opportunities.

Columbia Is a City of Gamecocks – The University of South Carolina campus is located right in the heart of Columbia. Campus is one of the oldest sites in Columbia and the area around campus was built for college students. Whether its great restaurants within walking distance, the Five Points area for nightlife and shopping, or the multitude of college living apartments off campus, Columbia really shows that it was built around USC.

Lots to Do! There has been a crack down on Greek life but fraternities will usually host some great parties around Greek village or rent out bars and clubs. Five points is usually pretty busy after the first month or two of school when the police presence calms down. Freshman going out usually meant going downtown and out to bars. Once more people move off campus sophomore year there are a lot more house parties. The Olympia and Granby apartments usually have a lot going on

Charming or Outdated – The older campus buildings and all newly renovated buildings are gorgeous. The horseshoe is historic and charming. There are a couple outdated dorms and buildings like McBryde, the BA, humanities, capstone, bates, capstone that aren't the most attractive but USC is slowly renovating many buildings.
College Senior 2011-10-16T18:48:40Z
Internet on Campus Is Great ! In classrooms and most campus buildings there is a great wireless connection. You will typically get a strong signal wherever you are as long as you're logged in. Some of the dorms don't get wireless though. You'll need an ethernet cord

There is not too much to do off campus unless there is a concert/fair/event in town. There are a lot of bars off campus and you would need to be of age unless you have a fake.

GDI Not Welcome – Greek Life is huge at USC, some are more tolerant of others who are not part of that organization but most don't socialize with people outside of that community. It is partially a status and a lot can be said about you from your sorority/frat.
College Senior 2011-10-16T02:33:35Z
Guys & Girls:
Greek Life is HUGE. Most all guys and girls are part of it can it all goes back to southern-ness. Accents, trends, activities.. all of it. There is a good mix of races but it can be racist at times, though I have never personally experienced this.
College Senior 2011-10-16T02:26:43Z
Health & Safety:
Health and Safety – Health and Safety at USC is good, but there are many streets with cars and crosswalks that aren't acknowledged really well and some blind corners where walkers have to be very very careful. Also, there are some places on campus that are somewhat secluded where I would not be comfortable walking alone.
College Senior 2011-10-15T17:33:51Z
Be Smart – If you are living in a dorm, don't try to throw a huge party that will attract attention from the RM! Make friends with people who live off campus and party there. It will be more fun because you won't have to worry about being written up.

Thought-Provoking New Perspectives – I came to South Carolina because I was not sure what I wanted to major in, so I wanted a large school with lots of options. I took a variety of entry level classes and I was surprised how the professors were able to inspire my interests. I really enjoy going to class because the teachers connect ideas that penetrate all disciplines of the curricula.
