There is not a big drug scene that I ever saw. Drinking is much more popular especially during football season.

Teachers Who Have Done Not Just Read. The SPTE department at USC is a great department to be in. We learn so much about the business side of sports and what you do not see happen during an event. The thing I am most impressed about this major is the quality of teachers. The professors in this major have worked in the field we are studying. They have real life expereinces and issues that they can teach us about. The books are helpful but not near as helpful as just learning from our professors. Because of there backgrounds they teach in a way that forces you to do, not just sit in a classroom and rea information. We have two full time internships and classes that cause us to go out an put on events. I am grateful to all of the professors I have had in the SPTE department at the University of South Carolina.

Being a Political Science major with an emphasis in International Relations provides a lot of opportunity at USC. Being located in the state capital, there is a lot of access to state and even national politics. I spent last year working on the current governor's campaign. International ties are woven throughout the university, from athletic recruitment to boasting the best undergraduate International Business School in the nation. The access and attention that the University of South Carolina provides my studies is tremendous.

The University of South Carolina is a large, SEC school located in a big city in the south, so of course football is important, it's hot most of the time, and there are lots of students, with lots of activities going on all the time! But what's even better that makes us original is our fighting spirit, our envious mascot (the Gamecocks- bring on the inappropriate jokes!), our southern hospitality, and the fact that we just won 2 National Championships back-to-back in the College World Series (that's baseball for those of you who are new to this news)! We're dedicated to our studies, but after a year like we just had, I wouldn't be surprised if we overtook UGA for Biggest Party School this year! Go Cocks!

Hot, Hot, Hot! Columbia is one of the hottest cities in the south-east united states! In the fall, it's uncomfortably hot for the first 2 months, but after that the climate is perfectly warm and throughout the year it's almost always sunny and gorgeous outside, filled with those beautiful days you never want to end.

International Business Program – The University of South Carolina is the #1 place to go for this major in the entire country (Credited as such by several large companies, critics, and news networks), and I have found this title to be perfectly fitting. All the teachers I have worked with thus far (with one exception) have been amazingly helpful and kind, and sincerely care about their students. The curriculum is such that you get a little taste of everything before having to decide on your second required major in the business field, and a minor in a foreign language is required so that you are better prepared for a career in international business by the time of graduation. The workload so far is not bad at all (compared to my IBO- international baccalaureate program in high school), and my class schedule is such that I have no classes on fridays, ever. The career center is also very helpful with finding internships and working on resumes and cover letters, and there are job fairs on campus several times a year with many large companies and corporations looking for future employees.

General parking for students is first come, first serve. However, there are parking garages in every area of the campus ranging from 120.00 to 320.00 per semester.

Off Campus – Depending on where you live off campus, and what is included in your apartment can make a difference in price. Overall, the cost of living off campus is cheaper than living on campus. Some apartments offered students their own bathroom and bedroom and a free shuttle to campus, which was cheaper than living on campus. But some apartments that were closer to campus were more expensive, and others just were over the top fancy.

On Campus – From talking to other students on campus, they have mixed feelings about living on campus. Depending on where you live, you may have a better experience than others. For example, freshman who live at Bates tend to complain about the air conditioning or the heat, the uncomfortable beds, etc. However, if the students lived around the Horseshoe, Capstone, or the Quads, they tended to enjoy being within walking distance to everything, had good dorm rooms, etc.

The Marine Science program at USC is very good. It offers the opportunity for undergraduates to do undergraduate research that will offer them hands on experience needed to raise their chances of getting a job after college or to attend graduate school. The faculty are really helpful aiding students in which professors to work with, and also they will offer to give letters of recommendations for internships, scholarships, and graduate schools. The program offers weekly seminars that students can attend to learn more about research done among the marine science field. SEAS and scuba club offer students the chance to learn more about the ocean environment, volunteer with research projects, and to dive.

Columbia, South Carolina, being a metropolitan area, offers many diverse choices for off-campus comestibles. The prices are reasonable, and being central to a college-associated business, all are incredibly accessible and convenient. Above all, there are options for vegetarian, vegan, and kosher students.

Tremendous Internship Program – This college truly hones in on the importance of journalism and communications. There are in-house living communities which you can align yourself with, as well as incredible opportunities for internship. Pairing themselves with the New York Times to allow student interns to receive critical on-the-job training, the University does a magnificent job for my particular major.
