Health & Safety:
It is a city – Not sure what people expect but Columbia is a city so you have to pay attention when you go out. Crime is not rampant but you do need to be smart about what you are doing.

Guys & Girls:
Good looking – Honestly most girls here great. Walking around campus they tend to smile and say hey to people. The fact that everyone is so friendly makes for a great campus environment. You see a range but for the most part they are southern belles and look great no matter what they are wearing. Guys wear your typical frat attire and are expected to hold doors for women. Ive been to other schools that are nowhere near as polite.

Academics are tough but if you take advantage of tutoring and resources you will be fine. Most upperclassmen that I know have had no trouble getting into great grad schools.

Drugs are not huge part of the lifestyle here in Columbia. People who use tend to keep to themselves and you dont have to worry about being uncomfortable around them. Most of it happens behind closed doors so its not prevalent. I've been to plenty of other schools where it is out in the open and that is not the case here.

The nightlife revolves around three main areas: Five points, the vista, and greek life. Five points is a college bar scene. The university has a shuttle services that runs every hour to five points and back to campus. The Vista is the nicer, more adult oriented area. it has some clubs and bars and a lot of restaurants too. The frat parties are awesome and everything is in walking distance. from greek village to five points is about a fifteen minute walk/stumble

Dorm Safety – Almost every dorm at USC has magnetic card swipes as well as a desk manager during the day and a security officer at night to let you in and make sure you are aloud in the building. This makes it easy to sleep at night knowing no random guy can just barge into your building.

Almost everyone here has a schedule that is managable. All the schedules ive seen dont go past 2 o'clock except for science labs..

If I Could Do It Again, I WOULD! USC has an amazing student life, athletics, and nightlife scene. I had a blast in school and learned from amazing professors.

Surprisingly Diverse With a Southern Charm – Although located in the South, The University of South Carolina has an incredibly diverse and accepting student body. With several highly acclaimed programs such as the international business program and the exercise science program USC attracts students from all over the country from New York to California and from around the world (thanks to a fabulous study abroad/student exchange program).

the Library is nice..however at some periods in the day its is hard to find a free computer. It overall is a nice campus. Buildings and seats need updating and cleaning.

Wish I Went Elsewhere – USC parking is horrible, you have to pay to park pretty much anywhere and it can almost be impossible to find spots at certain times of day. School gives very little financial aid and the staff and counselors are not very helpful at all. The city is over-run with bums and many students have had their cars/homes broken into. The student population is mostly greek and most students can be very standoffish if they do not "know" you. They barely offer any summer courses and during breaks and summer most of the campus completely shuts down. DO NOT GET THE STUDENT INSURANCE!!! I cannot stress this enough. It will not pay for hardly anything for an emergency room stay. And the USC doctors on campus send alot of referals (not much is done by doctors on campus) Teachers are okay..some are great..on avg most dont answer emails. Overall I am disappointed in my choice...I came for the business school which is less than stellar.

Nice Police – I personally found the officers nice. As long as you don't do anything illegal, I don't see why you would have a problem with them.

I don't care much about sports, but a lot of people I know do. They keep saying how great a football game is, how talented is the baseball team. I think that if you are fond of sports, you will find people with the same interest there.
College Senior 2011-05-31T21:14:03Z
I think that the international business program does bring a lot of diversity. However, when you come to the rest of the school, the majority of the people are from South Carolina.

I Want Healthy Food – I did not like much of the food. Most the facilities were fast food, and the one that weren't were rather expensive for the quantity and quality of the food. Besides salads and sushis, there wasn't much healthy things to eat.

Accounting and Finance – I majored in Accounting and Finance with a plan to begin a career in public accounting. After completing my undergrad, I decided to continue with graduate school at the same University so that I could continue my education with the same professors and a majority of the same students.

Are usually a reliable way to get around campus depending on traffic. They don't make practical stops where students need to go.
College Senior 2011-05-24T03:00:24Z
Campus is surrounded by two great nightlife hotspots: 5 Points and The Vista. Vista is more upclass and has dining options, 5 Points is mainly underage clubs and bars. 5 Points does experience alot of crime.

Campus Crime – Robberies are prevalent around and nearby campus mainly after midnight.

Columbia's Vista and Five Points, Division of the Classes – Since Columbia is a very small city, and I'm more use to the diversity in New York, there are not too many options with dining, nightlife, etc. The options we do have are divided cleanly in the Vista, which is the more upperclass dining, to the Five Points, which has the cheaper college bars. There are many student specials throughout the week because Columbia is mainly a college city. As for convenience it is all located within a short 5 minute cab ride of each other. Most off-campus housing divisions provide free transportation by shuttle bus to the Five Points and to the university for students, and most of these complex's are located within 10 minutes of the university. It is a fun college city and an affordable area for students. Not to mention the awesome coupon books we get every semester!

An Absolute Headache – Asked for my proof of residency every year, even though I've lived here for 10 years and they have my records from the previous years. Very little financial aid offered.

Upperclassman Dorms Are the Best – Do not live at Bates House of McBryde. They are absolute filth. If you choose to stay on campus after freshman year, upperclassman dorms are the way to go.
