Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

USD is home to an interesting range of faculty, professors, and classes. While most teachers are full-time professors, not all of them have teaching degrees. Many of the professors in the business and political science department were once professionals, and the media and fine arts departments are home to several adjuncts who still work professionally full-time and teach part-time. The range of previous employments on our faculty list creates never-ending new experiences for students each semester with a constant range of professional advice, experience, and personality.

Freshmen can expect a number of their classes to be rather large and in lecture halls; however, most students never enter the lecture halls after their first year of class. Once into your major, classes will become smaller, usually between 12 and 22 students. Attendance in classes is important, and many upper-level classes have strict policies and drop students from courses after they miss too many classes. USD students must be advised before registering for class, and all initial registering is done online. Several students complain about advising in their department, saying they’ve been poorly advised. Because of this, it is important to keep a personal catalog to keep track of the classes you need in order to graduate and what grades you need for the completion of your major.

LOVE

USD is a great college. This is the third college I have attended and it has been far my favorite. The theatre department is wonderful. The professors truly care and take great interest in the students. I know I am getting a first class education.

The Dwindling Value of Academics at USD

USD prides itself in being a large school in a small community, but students still come here expecting one on one learning. Instead, the school seems to be more interested in its image than its academics, and I find myself floundering more often than not.
