Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Don’t bring a trailer full of stuff on moving day because you’ll only fit a small portion of it into your dorm room. Yes, USD dorms are small and old, but they’re a great experience. And while it’s true that not much else besides the bed, desk, fridge, and maybe a small couch will fit, you’ll find the free cable, Internet, and utilities a big advantage. In addition, most of the dorms have recently undergone renovations or are scheduled to undergo them soon, including brand new bathrooms and room amenities.

Each living area on campus provides different pros and cons. Living in the North Complex (Beede, Richardson, Olson, and Mickelson) puts you inside the same building as the Commons Dining Hall where part of your meal plan will be used. The Burgess/Norton complex is close to the English, political science, and computer science departments, as well as Old Main, which is home to the Honors Program. Julian Hall is located near the science departments and offers the largest rooms, but there is no air conditioning and it is an old building. McFadden, which is not available to freshmen, is a great apartment complex for undergraduates, offering a hot tub and a workout room. Most students move off campus after their sophomore year, but some stay on campus, and the University has no rules regarding how long you can live on campus.

Didn't Live There

I don't know how the on campus housing is, as I have never lived in the dorms. However, from what I have seen of them. They are fairly utilitarian, somewhat comfortable, and neither well nor poorly placed in relation to getting to other places on campus.

Campus Housing at University of South Dakota

A+

Not your typical "dorm"

I can't wait for next fall. I'm going to be one of the first residents of Coyote Village. I have a 2 bedroom apartment with a stove/oven and full size fridge. I get my own bedroom an don't have to stare at toothpaste my roommate left in the sink because I get my own bathroom sink too!

I thought my CAs were really cool...

I thought my CAs were really cool on my floor, and the University did a good job pairing me up with my roommate. We decided to get a dorm room together again this year.
