College Prowler Take
USD doesn’t have the best campus facilities in the nation. But for a smaller campus in a smaller town, the school offers up-to-date buildings with more remodeling currently taking place. In the past five years, USD has remodeled many of their dorms and the DakotaDome, cut ribbons on a new mass communications department and a new admissions/financial aid/registrar building, and is currently in the process of building a new medical school, new student center, new business school, and remodeling Slagle Hall, our largest theater/auditorium. Construction seems to be constant, and while it can be frustrating, students realize that, in the long run, these new facilities will be worth the hassle. On campus, be sure to check out the DakotaDome’s swimming pool, the Concourse (the large hallway in the Neuharth Center), and Farber Hall, located in Old Main. USD may not have any bowling alleys, movie theaters, and convenient stores, but these can all be located within walking distance from campus. The CSC does offer some entertainment, including pool tables and a big-screen TV. Off campus, be sure to check out Prairie Lanes Bowling on Dakota Street, the Coffee Shop Gallery on Main Street, and the Civic Council on Prospect Street.

The new buildings are beautiful and full of up-to-date technology. The new Neuharth Media Center is simply something to see. Also, the DakotaDome is one of the greatest facilities in the state. I can go there and do virtually any type of workout routine I want and go home satisfied. |

The facilities are nice. There’s not a whole lot to do in the student center, but it’s not too bad. I don’t think the Dome’s workout area is that great, and the ones in the dorms are pretty sad. |

The facilities are either new or ancient. It’s your luck where you have class or choose to hang out. Old Main is nice, and the basement of Noteboom Hall is creepy. My freshman English class was there, and it seemed like a dungeon. |

It’s the oldest campus in the state, what do you expect most of the buildings to look like? Things are outdated, but the atmosphere really seems to make you forget about how old the building you’re standing in really is. |

Old Main is lovely, especially at night. It’s also nice because it has ‘smart’ classrooms that can offer Internet access, so teachers can interact better during class hours. |

Favorite Things To Do
On campus, you can find pool tables in the student center and the dorms. Other than that, check the campus calendar online, or in the student center, to see what activities are taking place on campus. USD is small, and the campus doesn't offer many extra activities, but the town has enough to offer to keep you entertained. Plus, many organizations sponsor a number of events throughout the year. The fine arts department puts on three to five plays a year, and students can buy tickets for under $5, depending on the play. Student poetry readings and poetry slams also take place both on and off campus at the coffeeshops, and the English department is active in bringing authors to campus for free workshops and readings.
Students on campus spend time in their dorm rooms or in the Coyote Student Center watching the big screen or playing pool. Intramural sports are the most popular on-campus activities. However, most students go off campus to hang out.
