Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Vermillion is home to a variety of restaurants, and new ones seem to open yearly. Several students boast Pro’s hot wings and Mister Smith’s deli located inside Jones Food Center. Prices, just like menus at the restaurants, vary greatly, and students will find places offering a cheap, light bite and others offering a gourmet, expensive dinner. Many students don’t realize the number of restaurants located on the side streets in downtown Vermillion, where you’ll find more locals than college students, but really good food. Also, be sure to check out Chae’s Chinese, expensive but delicious, and Mexico Viejo, reasonably priced with excellent salsa and chips. Another student favorite is located just east of town in Burbank. Called Whimp’s Place, it offers an all-you-can-eat spaghetti night on Thursdays, offering a chance to get out of town.

Several of the restaurants and almost all the pizza parlors offer discounts, or a special with student IDs, including the popular $5 pizza at Domino’s. Vermillion high school athletes also sell discount cards, called Tanager cards, which offer further deals around town. Be sure to also look out for food coupons in the University paper, The Volante. If you are downtown-hopping and on the prowl for grub, stop in Chalky’s for a Chalky Taco—don’t let the name stop you, students rave about them.

Up and Down Cherry Street

Almost any of your dining wants can be found when traveling up and down Cherry Street. From Dairy Queen, to Taco Johns, to the 50s style diner, Vermillion has it all. There isn't much for student discounts, but everywhere is within walking distance of campus and you won't spend more than $10 for a good meal. Be sure to check out Cherry Street Grill, a diner that's like a blast from the past. Good food, all for reasonable prices!

Variety

The off-campus dining is pretty great here! There is a lot of variety to choose from. Almost all places are very affordable, and the all have great food. The quality is outstanding! I usually leave with a doggy bag because I cant eat everything the give me! The best place to eat would be Cafe Brule. Affordable, great food, amazing overall!

Fast Food

Around campus is full of Fast food restaurants with a small selection of sit down restaurants. Some places take campus money from our ID cards but not many fast food places do. They are relatively cheap.
