College Prowler Take
USD may not be well-known nationally, but the Midwest ranks many of the University’s departments as some of the top ones in the area, and most of the students say they wouldn’t wish to be anywhere else. Students unhappy with USD are usually those that are unhappy with the locale and the expected degree of work. After all, there’s nothing wrong with small-town South Dakota. In fact, when it comes to a friendly atmosphere, USD couldn’t get much better. Whether you’re in class or just hanging out chatting on one of Vermillion’s green lawns, students and faculty on campus are polite, conversational, and generally happy. And with all the tutorial opportunities and student advisors, leaders, and philanthropists, USD students, for the most part, are always willing to meet a new face and began a new friendship.
USD may lack transportation and have students who speak with a Midwestern accent, but there definitely is a huge variety of student interests, considering the school attracts not only city kids and future doctors but also farm-raised tomboys and top ACT rankers. But because of this, USD has adapted to being prepared to deal with classmates that may have everything or nothing in common. It is part of what makes the campus, classes, and community so neat. If you’re looking for the friendliness of a small community, the competition of a top school, and the educational opportunities of a private institution, USD has the ability to offer all three. In addition, while here, you’ll have every chance possible to do some hands-on researching, be part of some amazing organizations, receive some downhome attention, and make friends to last a lifetime.

I think what is most remarkable about our school is that a person can show up on any given day and be accepted with open arms. To walk into a room filled with people who have been striving for years for one goal, and to have them turn over a handful of the work to you on only trust—this is something I’ve found happens here any time you ask for it. |
