College Prowler Take
The variety of food at USF has increased in recent years, reflecting the diverse tastes of USF students. While most students would consider this a good thing, others are upset with the influx of fast food restaurants making their way onto campus. The foods currently offered at USF are mostly sandwiches, from those at Montague’s Deli and Subway to those at Chik-fil-A. SUSHI and Bène Pizza and Pasta add something different to the mix, but many students complain that this little bit of variety is not enough. The places to eat on campus are essentially an oligopoly, with most places having high prices for a small amount of food. Should students really be forced to pay $5 for a small salad? Remember, that is excluding the price of the drink that will go along with it. Even bagels at Einstein’s add up—where students can easily spend $5 for a light breakfast. USF is trying hard to keep their students content with daily meals, but expensive food is gradually ticking them off. Students who can’t really afford to spend all of their money on food still end up eating on campus, because it beats the hassle of leaving during the busiest time of the day.

There are locations all over campus to find food, though much of it is expensive. The new student center includes many options, including a Beef O Bradys.

There used to be a small independent food stand by the Cooper Hall where you could get chicken teriyaki, egg rolls, hot dogs, and lemonade for a reasonable price, but it has been gone for a while now. Most students are on a limited budget and don’t want to spend $5 for a bagel, but unfortunately, that’s what it has come to. It is best to leave campus to get food. To prove my point, they have built a Starbucks inside the library, which pisses me off. |

I think the food on campus is...
I think the food on campus is really, really good, especially when it comes to choices, but not when it comes to price. It’s so expensive that I never really eat there unless I have extra cash. In the Tampa Room, the fact that you can have anything from plain chicken nuggets to sushi is good, and they have a lot of good stuff for vegetarians. I guess if you have flex bucks or something from your meal plan, then you might not mind paying for it, but for the poor college student, I would recommend bringing your own lunch here because sometimes the lines tend to be long and it costs a fortune. The eating areas are not all that great in the Marshall Center, but I hear the new dining halls for people on meal plans are really nice, like the Fresh Food Company. |

I like the food at Einstein’s. I think it is pretty decent, and some of the things on the menu are good and tasty. As far as food that comes with a meal plan, it sucks because the food is not tasty and gives unwanted stomach problems. |

The food on campus has gotten better since I first started school here. The main dining hall is the Fresh Food Company, which has been remodeled and serves better food. There is also the Tampa Room located inside the Marshall Center, which has better food. |
