College Prowler Take

The police on campus do what they feel is necessary to promote the students’ best interests. Officers do not normally interfere with parties on campus, unless a problem arises or students are drinking outdoors. Students can be fined or arrested for drinking outside of their buildings on campus, and it is not unusual for this to happen. While underage drinking on campus is common, the police do not normally bother those students who are not bothering others. Some students who have been caught drinking outside of their buildings have been lucky enough to get off with just a warning, but students should always be prepared for the worst scenario.

Campus police are always out on the prowl, looking for students who are running through red lights and racing through campus in their cars. While this can be a hassle for some students, others feel safer to know that the police are out doing their job. Police only hassle skateboarders during business hours, leaving all night for them to grind ledges. Students who want to steal bikes should be aware that many of the bike thieves on campus have been caught in previous years. The officers on campus are strict enough to keep fools from causing trouble on campus, but lenient enough to help students out if they’re in a bind.

I think students need to make themselves aware of the campus drinking policies when they arrive on campus, so they know of them and are not surprised if they are caught drinking. You can drink in your room if you are 21. You may not drink if you are under 21, and if you get caught, you will be referred to Judicial Services where they decide the action they want you to take, which normally involves some type of alcohol education. You may also have to write apology letters if you had disturbed anyone while you were drinking. You will also be put on USF probation for a year. I don’t really know what happens if you get caught with drugs.

A lot of kids sell drugs out of their dorms, which is stupid. I say keep it off campus.

Very strict and rightfully so, except when it comes to marijuana, which I feel they are ignorant and prejudiced about. I have heard multiple cops refer to marijuana as ‘dope,’ which is a negative term for it because they also call heroine ‘dope.’ Therefore, they often lump heroine and weed in the same category, which is ridiculous. Police should be cracking down on more harmful drugs, like ecstasy and cocaine, but instead spend a lot of time hunting potheads.

If you’re outside drinking, they’re strict, but not really in your room with drinking. I’m not sure about drugs.
