Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Students at USF generally feel safe on campus. Most areas of the campus are lit up at night, so students need not fear that there is someone lurking in the shadows. However, for those who are afraid to walk alone late at night, the SAFE Team will transport students anywhere on campus. SAFE Team’s presence also deters criminals from committing crimes because of the elevated possibility that their acts will be observed. There are also several emergency call-boxes that are conveniently located throughout campus. The University Police Department does an excellent job of making students feel safe during their time on campus.

The most commonly reported crime at USF is theft. Most of these thefts are incidents that could have been prevented if students had taken the time to lock their residence doors, their car doors, or their bicycles. Students should take advantage of the school’s crime prevention programs, which are offered at various times throughout the year and are free of charge. If students ever have any questions about their personal safety or security, they are encouraged to contact the University Police Department at any time; the officers are very friendly and eager to help any chance they get.

I Feel Safe

There is a SAFE team that is on duty every night. Anybody can call them to get a golf cart from/to anywhere on campus. There are those blue poles many places on campus to hit a button for help. There are university police I see every now and then. Great and safe atmosphere to me.

Safety Is a Concern

I cannot say I always feel unsafe at University of South Florida, but since I have attended this school (2 years now) I have had a number of text messages from the security alert system stating there has been a bomb threat. Most of the Science major students are from Iraq, although I have generally met really nice people from the Arabic soils, one has to wonder how safe the campus really is.
