The Environment

Our campus is very friendly and relaxing. It is a campus on the water- literally. Any class you go to you see our small marina with our boats and the small bay. Just 15 minutes away is an actual beach. Professors are easy to talk to and very helpful. Everyone is very helpful. I just wish more student employment was available

Clubs

There's so many clubs here, it's ridiculous! We have over 500 clubs and organizations. I encourage everyone to at least join one. I never realized that we had so many clubs until I compared our number with the number of clubs at other schools. There really is something for everyone here. The only reason I give it a minus is because SOME of the clubs are run by people who have no idea what they're doing. But hey, you can use that as an opportunity to be a leader, right?

Social

USF seems to be extremely social. Whether that floats your boat or not, it's always in a nice and harmless way. People are always pleasant to be around and regularly chat you up.

Facts

Traditions
  • Bull Market: This is a marketplace where people can come together to share ideas, cultures, and sell homemade goods. Bull Market is held every Wednesday afternoon and is located outside the Marshall Center.
  • Herd of Thunder: Although they've only been in existence since 1999, USF’s marching band has been growing steadily with school support, along with USF’s athletic department. They’re called the "Herd of Thunder" because of their unique entrance onto the field at football games. They “stampede” the field, running out onto it rather than entering the field in a traditional fashion.
  • Homecoming: USF sets aside an entire week for Homecoming events. The week begins with Bull Raid, a competition where student organizations decorate local businesses in green and gold to show their USF support. The week also features a Masquerade Ball, a night of laughs with a comedy show called Stampede, and a carnival. The week ends with the Homecoming football game at Raymond James Stadium, which is also where the Bucs play.
  • Movies on the Lawn: "MOTL" began after the Special Events Center was constructed at USF. The wall of the SEC made an excellent movie screen, so students began to gather every Wednesday night to watch a movie that had already been out in theaters but wasn’t quite on DVD yet. Around 300 students attend this event every week.
Urban Legends
  • On certain nights of the year, a group of vampires gather together in the basement of Cooper Hall.
  • Students were showing up to class drunk after going to Beef 'O' Brady's. This was before they changed their rule to serve alcohol after 5 p.m.
  • There have been several instances of human feces found in the elevators around campus.
  • There have been several people struck by lightning on the USF campus. The most recent case involved a girl who went to class immediately after being struck.
