The Greenery Pub

College Prowler Take

Tampa has countless venues that anyone can enjoy, regardless of what scene they’re into. Hip hop headz around campus frequent Club XS and Club 112. Trendy students will enjoy the Hyde Park Café, and for everyone else there’s New World Brewery. The Greenery Pub is a popular place for USF students to meet up and have a drink or 10 with their friends. College students love Ybor City, a strip district of nightclubs, bars, and restaurants that is about 15 minutes away from campus. Newcomers to the area are mesmerized by the lights, the sounds, and the people that walk the strip at night. Most of the clubs are open to people 18 years of age or older, but a good fake ID can get students into just about any club off 7th Avenue.

Tampa is also nationally known for its strip clubs. Students should know before coming to USF that Thee Dollhouse Lounge, Mons Venus, and 2001 Odyssey are some of the most popular adult entertainment establishments in the country. However, none of these establishments are located in the University area. Whether students consider these establishments as more great reasons to go to USF or choose to look down upon them in disgust, they should be warned about the abundance of these clubs in Tampa.

Always watch your drink. Ybor is fun as first, but it gets really old after a while. People that like to play pool can go to Peabody’s, which is the only good place to play pool around here.

There are not many parties on campus unless they are in the individual dorm rooms. The bars and clubs are pretty good off campus. There is a little city next to Tampa called Ybor City. The club’s names change all the time, but they are all pretty good.

Ybor is the place to go if you are looking for underage high school girls pretending to be 18. It’s very shady, indeed.

As far as bars off campus, I have not been to too many; I think drinking at a restaurant is more fun. A cheap place to go on Wednesday nights, though, is Bobalouies. It’s around $1 to get in, and girls drink free most of the night.

I am not much of a bar or club-goer. I can count the amount of times I have been to a club or a bar. I never liked the experience because I always got harassed by creepy guys trying to touch me and things like that. Itis funny because I dressed with long pants and a dressy shirt that is not racy, but they still grabbed me. I was going to hurt someone, so I haven’t gone in a long time.

Facts

Club Crawler

Tampa has a great nightlife! Virtually every club in the city is open to anyone at least 18 years of age. A good fake ID will allow those who aren’t yet 21 to drink at a number of places, but be sure to ask around about which clubs are lenient on this matter and which ones aren’t (you could wind up in handcuffs). Thursday nights are the big nights for clubbing around USF, but there is something going on almost every night of the week.

Bar Prowler

For those seeking something different than loud, fast-paced nightclubs, Tampa has a variety of bars to choose from.

Organization Parties

The Black Student Union often holds parties at Club XS in downtown Tampa. The PRIDE Alliance occasionally holds events at a local nightclub to raise money for their organization. Organizational parties are common at Rocky’s and Club 112.

Worth the drive, and located about 35 miles from campus, this is the kind of place that you’ll only find in Florida. The Tiki Bar is much like a large patio. The outdoor (lawn) furniture makes no pretense at being upscale, but that’s just fine. Inside, the nightclub offers a dance floor complete with lights and live music. The evening crowd comes dressed up a little more, but remains cool and casual, ready to enjoy the nightlife that the Tampa Bay area is famous for.
