College Prowler Take
Florida is called “The Sunshine State” for a reason. Spring is beautiful in Florida, but becomes increasingly hot as the days melt into the summer. Hot and humid autumn months consistently forecast thunderstorms in the Bay area, which lead into winters that are mildly cold. Tampa has the perfect weather to enjoy summertime in the sun or winter in a sweatshirt with jeans. Winter nights in Florida get very cool, but it’ll be a cold day in hell before the Tampa Bay area sees snow on the ground, although it is reported that there were flurries on campus in the ’70s.
Students should remember to pack an umbrella with them when they come to USF in the fall. The thunderstorms are scary on campus, and several people have been struck by lightning in recent years while walking to and from class. The good thing, however, is that thunderstorms are usually brief, and there are very few days where plans have to be cancelled because of the rain.

It’s Florida, what can I say? There is lots of sun and lots of rain. The winters don’t get that cold—unless you think 50 degrees is really cold. You will be wearing jeans or shorts and T-shirts most of the year. You will need a light sweater and long-sleeve shirt for two to three months of the year. |

It’s hot, it’s humid, it’s Florida. Bring shorts and flip-flops. A sweater for the winter is good enough for those of us who grew up here in the hot weather. |
