You really don't need a car to get around. Mostly everything is walking distance or you can take public transportation which is really cheap. There is also a cruiser service that runs until 3am that you can take for free as well as a shuttle that runs until 6am for those late night study sessions in the library or the occasional late party ;). There are also shuttles that are free to students that take you around campus and between the main campus and the health sciences campus. Transportation for long distance you can rent a car by the hour or for the whole day. also pretty cheap.

Great School Spirit – Love the school, sometimes the professors aren't that great at teaching but they are SUPER passionate about their work and offer great support. School spirit is awesome! It's not that bad when trying to get into classes usually if you talk to the professor they'll let you in
Only downside, if you are on campus during the summer, there is a lot of construction.

LA Live – USC and the immediate surrounding areas aren't the best in terms of nightlife. However, you can take a free shuttle to LA Live for bowling, movies, lots of restaurants, concerts, and sporting events. Downtown LA in general has a lot to offer.

They Make It Easy – Very easy to connect to wifi with a laptop. Printing is also very easy.

Nothing Obvious – In contrast to other schools I have attended, I have never seen drug, etc. use on campus. I'm sure there is an "underground" presence of such substances, but it's not an obvious problem.

They Are Around – Really depends who your circle of friends are. I am in a frat, so drinking is much more popular, but recreational drugs like weed are used pretty frequently as well.

Living in a Frat House – I live in a frat house at USC, and its fairly awesome. Housing comes by every day to clean our messes. we can throw parties and stuff too, its baller.

Very Diverse School – as a private school, USC has a lot of international pull. There are high volumes of students from China and Korea, India, and Japan as well. There are also plenty of kids from all accros the US

Always There – I am a recent admit but from what I have heard so far and from what I have experienced, it seems as if everyone is always willing to lend a helping hand. Class registration was went well and I did not have to struggle to get into the classes that I needed. My advisor was also really helpful and setting a timeline for my whole program.

Lots of Rich Students – I do feel that the school is a bit of a bubble as it does not represent what we would see in the real working world on a socioeconomic level

There's No Other School I'd Rather Be at – You'll be wholeheartedly overwhelmed by the aged buildings, each with a unique story behind them. I love how old the school is because it makes me feel as if I am somehow connected to the history of the university. If you're looking for an incredible education, then this is the place to be. USC has an amazing quality of education.

The UV is a nice place to grab some food, Six Flags is extremely fun, it's LA so if you want culture this is the place to be. Visit a museum or art gallery, there's plenty of them. USC football is amazing and the staples center is right there if you want to catch a Lakers or Clippers game. Everyone here is extremely friendly. The only thing I'd change is the area by one of the Residence Halls. Don't live in Trojan on the street side. You will not sleep.

YES! to Jack's and Joe's – This little place is quite a find! It is perfect biking distance from USC and it is always packed. The only downfall would be the wait, but once you get a table the service is quick, the vibe of the restuarant is vibrant and the food is top notch quality! Come with an appetite, because you will definitely leave stuffed! Also perfect for eating with parents, friends or a date.

-So it only follows that to learn about the best, they have to supply us with the best. They also develop the best right here on campus, so everything you want or need or can even think of is available. And if it doesn't exist, you can actually propose it to faculty and see a turnaround before the year is up, depending on how monumental it is.

College Is College- It's Gonna Happen – Realize that USC is in perhaps what used to be notorious as the worst city in California, from pollution to safety to crime. That being said, drugs really aren't as bad as one might expect. They are basically divided by socio-economic lines. The rich kids that bought their way in or got in on legacy get the expensive stuff, usually Coke or H. Those on scholarship don't dare screw that up. Athletes don't do anything like that: being able to play is their life. Most, especially those from California and Colorado, are 420 friendly, but that doesn't mean we use it. We just don't care if anyone else does. Once you're here, you're family- and we take you just the way you want to be. No matter what you do here, everyone IS serious about succeeding, so while it might be there, it doesn't carry over to anything you see beyond a residence building.

Petroleum Engineering – When I told my colleagues at work that I was accepted to USC engineering, everyone smiled and clapped. Someone asked if it was ME or PE (MEchanical or PEtroleum). When I said PE, everyone cheered, spent the next two hours telling stories about people they knew in industry and the college, took me out to celebrate after work, and are helping me with connections and scholarships already. You don't go into Engineering, any part of it, if you don't love math and science. You just don't. I went into PE because the money is about 2-3x that of any other discipline, and I already have multiple connections in the field. No worries here!

I work with programming alarm sensors and facility design that our company puts in place. Essentially I'm the guy they go to when there is either really new software that nobody wants to learn or really old software that nobody ever did learn. Great pay, easy bosses, just get someone to like you and they'll watch out for you. So many people rely on me to finish their work. They routinely send me employment perks, like season dodger tickets, week-long deep sea fishing trips, even paying for vacations if I say I want to go to a college nearby that one of the higher ups likes.

Great School Spirit – The bigger sports have alot of following such as football, baseball and basketball. There is alot of school spirit on campus making games really fun. Some of the less popular sports do not have as much of a following but there are still students who go to the games to support their fellow trojans. I would say USC definitely puts alot of importance on its athletic departments.

If your perspective of California is sunny beaches, warm breezes, and ideal summer, then expect no less at USC. Because of it's close proximity to the beach, the temperature stays pretty static (the water helps control temperature due to absorption of heat as well as cooling). Expect a good amount of the year to be summer-like. However, that doesn't mean LA doesn't get it's share of cold and wet storms or extreme heat waves.

USC provides a tram service and a system called campus cruiser, which is a student driven program that you can call to drive you to places within a certain radius of USC. This is extremely helpful for those late night endeavors. The trams are a good source of transportation as they are usually punctual and efficient. For long-distance, LA public transportation includes the bus, taxi, and the LA metro.

I enrolled as an undeclared major at Dornsife and later declared cognitive science - since it was in the same college, I didn't have to go through a separate application process.

Very Satisfied – USC is a large school that manages to still pay personal attention to its students - I feel like I can always speak to faculty regarding help with getting an internship or research.

I received a decent financial aid package from USC, but it still wasn't what my family and I was expecting. There are a lot of things that go into receiving financial aid and it is very tricky and time consuming. The financial aid office at USC takes into consideration each student and how the family will be able to send their kid to USC. During my experience, they were very helpful and we were able to get a better aid package then what we originally had. My advice would be to meet with a financial aid advisor and discuss the situation because with my experience, I was able to get more financial aid. Overall, you have to make sure that you do as many scholarships and grants as possible because it is very expensive to attend USC and anything can help.

International Relations – I love my major and I'm pleased with the courses I've taken so far. If you don't like reading then don't even consider this major. The workload varies on the courses you're taking. Some classes are demanding, have lots of quizzes and require constant reading and essay writing, others just require the bare minimum reading, one or two quizzes and a final. When you've got an awesome professor (and most of them are, since most are accomplished in the field) you'll be willing to do the coursework. The study abroad program for the major is also great since USC's network is so broad. What made me choose doing IR here at USC rather than other universities is that I was able to do two concentrations within my major instead of just one, so I could do more. What's great about USC is that there are so many other minors and majors that compliment IR well so that at the end of the four years, you really feel like you LEARNED.

Shady-Looking Area but the Insides Are Nice and Clean – People complain about expense and crime. The trick is to be smart about the time of night you're walking about and your alertness. Apartments closest to campus are rather pricey but it's really all relative. Off campus housing is no Beverley Hills but the insides are surprisingly spacious and comfortable.
