The general consensus on Greek life at USC is two sided. Greek students can hardly imagine not having rushed, pledged, and joined a house, while most non-Greek students feel impartial about fraternities and sororities. Fraternities have a better reputation among non-Greek students than do sororities, probably because fraternities throw parties on a weekly basis, while sorority houses are never open for parties. Guys aren’t allowed into girls’ rooms.

Socializing on the Row goes on at fraternities. Girls in the same house tend to stick together, and in turn, get a reputation for being snobby. The Greek system is much like a high school with its various social cliques and constant gossip, but it is also the most distinguished social network that USC has ever had. Greek students are partly misunderstood and mislabeled by non-Greek students, as are non-Greeks by Greeks. The truth is, some students partake for the right reasons, just as some students avoid joining for the wrong reasons. As far as Greek systems go, USC is one of the best around. The pledge processes at different houses range from being peaceful to violent, long to short, educational to recreational, good to bad. No matter what a student is looking for, they will find it.

It's not as prevalent and insane... It's not as prevalent and insane as back in the '60s-'80s, but Greek life is still strong at USC. Least to say, the social scene is still better (and richer) than most universities in Southern California. 12345 Greek Life: March 10, 2009 Report

It definitely does dominate the... It definitely does dominate the social scene at our school, but not everyone is a part of it, and people still come to the parties. Greeks have friends who are not Greek. There are so many connections, benefits, and friendships to be made in the Greek system. 12345 Greek Life Report
