Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

People tend to be healthy and happy in Southern California, and these simple character traits work wonders for a person’s attractiveness. Aside from this, girls are downright beautiful, well dressed, and well spoken, and the guys tend to be tall and in strong physical condition. Gym demographics are a sure sign of what sort of look people are after. Guys are always hard at work in the weight room, while girls sweat out calories on the elliptical machines, treadmills, and StairMasters.

Guys and girls get along at USC, but they seem to have come here to have fun, not to fall in love. Like LA, USC has faces that you want to love, but how can you decide on which one to fall for? There is a superficial element to interactions between guys and girls that keeps people from letting their emotional defenses down, but that is to be expected. In USC’s defense, there are beautiful people here who don’t fit the stereotypes, as well as average-looking people who lead regular lives and enjoy their place in the sun. There is a great sense of outgoingness, as well, which allows everyone—from beautiful to not-so-beautiful—to have a good time, whether it's with friendships or French kisses.

Energetic and diverse

Generally, the students at USC are very energetic and diverse. There are a lot of people who are into working out and going to beaches, so they look healthy and fit. There are also people who are more into academics, music, and films (duh..) USC has a great theatre program, in which people are generally good-looking and friendly, but they don't party as much as the Greek people do. However, usage campus seems a bit segregated because of the big Greek system and lots of international students, but you can always meet attractive people with different interests from different countries if you want to.

Most Students Employ a "Work Hard, Play Hard," Mentality

The kind of students you will find at USC are well rounded and know how to keep their nose to the grindstone when work adds up, but also know how to have fun and have a good time. It's really rewarding being around such a talented, accomplished, and versatile group of people, because it makes you work harder and get more out of the social experience.

Girls Are Beautiful

There is such a diverse group of women to choose from at USC. Now they aren' everywhere, but the random gorgeous girl you do pass by will completely make up for it

What kinds of relationships have you had since coming to school?

How would you rate the social scene on campus?

Facts

Social Scene

USC is filled with social niches. The Greek system is the most outspoken and seemingly predominant social scene. Initially, most freshmen socialize with classmates and people in their housing complex. After the first few weeks of school, people tend to meet at parties on 28th Street (the Row) and other more relaxed settings. Greek students tend to stick together, mostly with the people in their own houses, but any outgoing, confident student will get along just fine with everyone.

Hookups or Relationships?

It is hard to maintain a stable relationship at USC. This seems to be a combined issue of vanity and bad timing. Many students have accepted the fact that people come to California in search of beautiful weather and beautiful people. There are exceptions to this, of course, but true love may be a little harder to find at USC than other colleges. Like a microcosm of greater Los Angeles, USC singles have a hard time finding lasting relationships due to the plasticity of the region.

Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls

If you’re looking for something temporary, go to the 9-0 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, the Row on Thursdays, and house parties and residence halls on weekends. If you are looking for commitment, sobriety is necessary.

Dress Code

The dress code on campus is casual. Rainbow sandals, cargo and board shorts, T-shirts, and sunglasses are the fraternity standard when the sun is shining. Sorority girls tend to go to class in velour and terrycloth outfits. Non-Greek students dress in any number of styles to complement the warm weather. Everyone looks the part when it's time to go out.
