Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Warm, sunny days and cool nights are the LA standard. The temperature doesn’t usually go above 90 or below 50 degrees during the school year. September and May can be uncomfortably hot for students who don’t have air conditioners, but people usually cope, especially those of who hail from less-tropical parts of the world. While the desert climate is usually arid, summers can be muggy. June is the only cloudy month of the year, although LA’s notorious smog tends to cast a slightly dark hue over the sky. Rain showers are most common in the winter, but they only last for a day and always wash away the smog until the hustlers and bustlers paint it gray again. In recent years, however, January and February have been real rainy seasons, so it’s off and on each year.

When the temperature gets unbearably high, the beach is nearby, and when it gets cooler than usual in late winter, the snow-capped mountains that surround the city are open for skiing and snowboarding. One of the greatest assets of living in LA is the variety of trees and flowers that remain colorful throughout the winter months.

It Never Rains in Southern California

It is almost always sunny at USC! The middle of the day is the warmest, which is when campus is pretty lively--everyone is outside biking, boarding, or walking to class to class, studying, or just hanging out. It can be pretty chilly in the mornings and evenings, and it rains maybe once every few months. But, other than that, the sun is almost always shining.

Beautiful Southern California Sunshine

We receive MUCH sunlight. Its pretty typical. But when it rains, it pours. USC doesn't have that great of a drainage system around campus...aka there are puddles everywhere. But it is very do-able weather ;)
