Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Diversity at the University of Tampa is very rich and well-noted everywhere. Students from all over the world are found all over campus. To express the diversity that takes place at UT, student organizations often prepare cultural events throughout the year, which allow students to interact with one another and get to know where everyone comes from.

People often say that most of the students at UT are rich and upper-class kids since UT is a private school, but that is not true. The University of Tampa welcomes students from all over the world and nation, no matter what their financial and economic statuses might be, and that is why the campus feels like an intercultural one, where everybody can meet people from all over the world and learn something new every day.

Tons of International Students

There is a high degree of international students, aiding in the overall diversity of the university. There is also much racial diversity on campus, though there are a fair amount of white students, as well. As far as economic status, I felt as if many of the students were of higher economic status, and definitely acted as if they were better than people of average/working class economic status.

Very Diverse

The University of Tampa is located in Tampa, FL but it seems every other person you ask is from Long Island, NY and every ten people you ask one person is from out of the country. I haven't met many people actually from Florida that attend this school.

Facts

Gay Pride

The GLBT community has a safe place at UT. There is no judgement, and UT even has an organization for GLBT students. They often have parades and contests, so they can show and educate the rest of the UT campus.

Political Activity

The University of Tampa is very politically active. During the 2008 presidential election, Senator John McCain visited campus. Also, President Obama was recently in Tampa for a town hall meeting. So the University itself is very politically active, and you can see the student body on all sides of the political spectrum.

Economic Status

Economic status is not a big issue at UT. Students can choose from a wide variety of scholarships they can benefit from, even if they are international students.
For the most part, no segregation can be found between students that come from a wealthy family and those that have a working-class background. Students generally all mix in together and have the time of their lives while attending UT.

Most Common Religions

The most practiced religions at UT are Catholicism and Islam. Often, you can find students going to their respective churches on Sundays or other days.

Minority Clubs on Campus

There are several minority clubs here at UT. Clubs like HOLA (Hispanic Organization for Latin Americans) bring much more diversity to the community. Their events are always well-received and welcome for the rest of the students who are always eager to learn more about different cultures.
