Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Since the campus is relatively small, students feel safe. In the past, some issues involving students and crime have come up, but usually these issues were off campus. Campus Security is always visible on University grounds, and even if students need to go from one place to another, they can always call Campus Security, who will provide transportation—no matter what time it is. Generally speaking, the entire campus is really safe, and students can walk around without fear most of the time. However, it is always better to call security if you need transportation, since the campus is open and so close to downtown.

The health center on campus gets the job done, even though it is not the greatest, nor the biggest. They have good doctors present at all times, and they will help you and point you in the right direction if they feel you need to go some place else for treatment. One complaint students have is that the health center often does not take walk-in emergencies because they have an appointment system that they do not break. So if you think you might be getting sick, call right away to set up an appointment before you feel worse and need immediate medical assistance.

Safe

The night escort service will take you anywhere on campus starting from 7pm till early morning. Campus Security constantly patrols day and night, and they will bring students to and from the Howard Johnson overflow residence hall when the shuttle service stops. Common sense keeps you safe. Keep you wits about you, have buddies, don't go in unsafe areas, keep your doors locked. Residence Halls require ID cards for entry.

Safe Campus but...

The campus is always safe and the security team is constantly patrolling. However, security often intervenes in the personal choices of the students.

Safety at School

The campus of UT is very very safe. However, the second you step off campus you need to be careful because you can get robbed. There is a housing project literally across the street from campus. If you are smart, you will be okay. On campus, not much crime everyone is safe, lots of security officers, etc.
