Athletics

There was not much student involvement, no one went to any of the games of any sports. Not much school spirit. We did just get a lacrosse team this year. Nice soccer field and gym, but again no students attended any games.

Average Opportunities, Average Overall.

Overall, I didn't find UT to be as special as I had hoped it would be. I liked the academic programs offered, overall, but found that I wasn't offered more courses to challenge me the way I wanted. There are a great number of on campus organizations to take part in, however.

Too Much Nightlife

Here in Tampa for the students nightlife is their life.

Very Diverse

The University of Tampa is located in Tampa, FL but it seems every other person you ask is from Long Island, NY and every ten people you ask one person is from out of the country. I haven't met many people actually from Florida that attend this school.

Dining

They need more on campus dining options. The caf gets old and everything closes way to early. Multiple options but gets old fast.

Limited

financial aid honestly doesn't help much and doesn't go up any when tuition rises.

Not All There

I did not receive the amount of scholarships that I was looking for and the scholarships were easily taken away when they were needed the most. No leniency when your grades were getting tough to keep up.

Features/ Desciption of Students on Campus

The students here on campus seem to be wealthy and well sustained. This is not a bad thing, but most students get this in there head that they have high-egos. This might mean they are stuck-up or maybe they just can't help the fact that they have money from there parents. I for one, went to school because I earned it through scholarships and loans. I didn't want my parents to help me pay for college. I feel that many guys and girls do not have that independence yet. Some act as if still in High School. The variety of students is great here. There are many from other countries and out of state.

Off-Campus Dining

There are a good amount of off-campus dining areas, but they seem to be out of walking reach. I have not heard of anyone on campus getting a student discount at any of our dining areas.

Greek

Frats aren't very big here. Sororities seem to have a bigger impact. There is typically a frat party every week; but they aren't in the typical frat houses one pictures. Some are kind of in the ghetto. I don't know too much about the frats, if I were in one, I would be more help

Strictness

yeah, there are a lot of underage drinking issues, a lot of people get in trouble

Financial Aid

My financial aid process was annoying. I had to keep sending in the same information over and over in order for my financial aid to be process. If that happens to you, just call the desk and someone will be there to talk to. It is hard to get in touch with the financial aid advisor. Once financial aid is settle though, everything else is a breeze.

Needs More Parking Garages

With a lack of parking garages, it is such a pain to take my car up to the 4th floor because all of the other spots are taken up. Also, people park over the lines and take up two spaces, which is very annoying.

Libraries Close Too Early

The libraries close at midnight, which doesn't give us much time to study.

Drug Scene

Drinking and Pre Gaming Is Fine, but No More Than 8 in Your Room for a Party.

The police force can be pretty strict about underage drinking and drug use. First-time offenders get a letter sent home, and second- and third-time offenders are in danger of losing their housing. It’s pretty serious if you get caught, so my best advice is to do everything discreetly and not to be obnoxious about it. If you’re going to drink then drink, but don’t start advertising keg parties in your room. You will get busted!

Drugs

UT is "normal" with the drug scene. I mean if you do not want to do drugs you do no have to. A lot of kids here do not do drugs. And the kids that do usually do weed, coke or ex. P.S do not plan on smoking weed at this school, security has cracked down and fist offense caught with pot is kicked off housing... and with the "colorful" atmosphere around campus you want to live on campus as a freshman and sophomore.

Background of Students

Most of the students in Tampa are from working class families. However, the school is ethnically diversified and everyone gets along in this environment.

Great Location and Weather

I came to Tampa University to get a great education while experiencing great weather all year long. Its a smaller campus, which enables students to make lasting friendships and feels like a big family, an extension of high school.

Dorm Life

The freshman dorms are small and there are no kitchens. The bathrooms are simple and the beds are high off the floor. The freshman dorms are dry dorms meanng no alcohol but there are still people who party. The higher floor the better because you can avoid the loud and dirty students if you are more of a person who studies. The triple is more ccrowded and there is not a lot of space. There is only two walk in closets and one normal closets. The desks can be crowded because there are no shelves. We only have a closet and desk to put stuff on. There is not much room for extra furniture but when the roommates are nice space is shared evenly. There is one sink with a medicine cabinet and a cabinet below and it can be shared. The cost can become expensive as we move up in class or if we are in a single double or triple. I am currently in a triple and I pay around $2300 but then again I am going to a private school so the price can be high. For convience it would depend on the classes that someone has and their type of schedule. The dorm that I am in now for my sophomore year has better internet service so it would be very convient and my friends and I have dinner downstairs. We are on the fourth floor this year so I am not sure what party people we may run into. Overall the dorms are not bad to live in. It is always convient to live on campus close to class and friends. The social atmosphere can be fun as long as we don not have a room near people who party or where there is a lot of noise.

Plenty of Options

There are 2 large parking garages to chose from and a few commuter lots. Parking is only a problem if you're a last minute kind of person and are trying to get parking 5 minutes before class. That's where you run into problems. If you're not lazy, just head straight to West Parking Garage (furthest from Plant Hall), find a spot, and hike it to your class (believe me, you can use all the exercise you can get as a college student). You hear people complain a lot about parking because they're a) lazy or b) last minute. If you're neither, parking won't bother you at all. Oh, freshman, just be prepared to park in West. Suck it up and you'll get to park anywhere once you become a Sophomore.

Professors Know YOU!

Class size at UT is incredible. One of my smallest classes had only 6 students. Most classes have no more than 30 students and the professors all know you by name. The professors make themselves readily available to assist with classwork and other assignments. Most professors are extremely knowledgeable about everything! Classes are challenging and insightful.

The Honors Program

The honors program at the university of Tampa is not especially hard to be accepted into out of highschool. However, it becomes challenging to stay in the honors program all four years and to graduate with honors you must have a cumulative gpa of 3.5 or higher. Despite the challenges, everyone should strive for this program. You receive more aid from the school as your grades rise And the program provides you with a better learning experience. The classes are smaller and the teachers are always really knowledgeable and excited about their subject. The classes are not necessarily harder, just broader, and much better in my opinion

Sociology

Small class size and great interaction with professors makes this a great area of study.

At first the night life was good because everything was new. Then you get used to all of the clubs and it becomes repetitive.
