Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

If you hail from Tennessee, you may be aware of the Vol craze, but you have only heard and seen a small part of what UT athletics is about. If you are from out-of-state, even in an area with a collegiate football team, you will still be surprised by how seriously the Volunteers take football. Even if you are not a huge sports fan, you will enjoy the excitement and tradition that goes along with a football game. It is only fair to warn you that if you dislike sports, you may want to vacate Knoxville in the event of a football game. You will probably have to go pretty far away, though.

IM sports are popular to both play in and watch. There are great chances to play sports, whether it is something you participated in during high school, you want to make friends, or have always wanted to learn. Some sports, such as flag football, are rather competitive. If you played high school varsity sports locally, chances are you might play with or against former high school rivals. A lot of teams go all out, planning practices and purchasing uniforms. In many IM sports, the playoffs draw a pretty big crowd, so you may have an audience when you score or when you drop the ball.

Great Fans

The student involvement in sports is at a very high quality. We actually have one of the highest attendance rates at basketball games in the south. Sports are a pretty big deal at UT, especially football. Tailgates are found everywhere on campus. If you go outside on campus on game day, it looks like an orange bomb exploded, everyone is ready to stand by their school and show the best school spirit.
