Most students' opinions on safety and security boil down to one thing-using your common sense. Even with all of the services the UTPD offers, none are a replacement for using your head. The UTPD take their jobs very seriously and are always looking out for students' safety. For a school of UT's size, they are very successful, and the majority of students don't walk around with spray-mace key rings tightly in hand.

All of the services mentioned here are at your disposal
and are sure to make you feel safer. Make sure you know the numbers to call if need be, and if you don't already have one, a cell phone may be a good investment (sorry, mom and dad). By programming them into your cell phone on your day of arrival, you may dodge a few uncomfortable moments.
