You don't really need a car here. Everything you need is in walking distance and there are many bus routes to catch. But if you do need a car, parking permit costs depend on where you want to keep your car. They run from a couple hundred to $1,000. It's not impossible to find parking, but it can get frustrating.

I hope to become a neonatal nurse one day. The nursing program here at UT is #1 in Texas. I have no worries about finding a job after I graduate because babies are always being born and nurses are needed everywhere.

The process of getting into the Nursing major is extremely competitive. UT's nursing school is #1 in Texas. They look at 3 GPAs: science, liberal arts, and overall. You have to write an essay explaining why you want to be in the major and what you plan to do with it in the future. They also look at how long you've volunteered at any nursing-related activities such as hospitals or nursing homes. I did not get in the first time I applied.

There's not a lot of bad incidents regarding drugs and alcohol. I have heard of three cases, one from drugs and two due to alcohol. No one other than the person taking the drug/alcohol was in harm.

There's always so much to do in Austin, whether its going out to parties that are fun and have security or just going to a nice restaurant on the river.

The bus system is the best form of transportation. The downfall is the buses don't stick to their schedule and often run behind creating an unpredictable schedule.

The University of Texas frequently wins national championships. The fans are involved, the alumni association contributes a large amount. And the cheerleaders are the best anywhere!

I personally feel safe on campus. I would say the biggest crime you hear about is theft - people break into cars that are parked in west campus a lot. Don't drive, take the bus!

You can ride any Austin metro bus for free with a UT student ID, so if you live off campus take the bus instead of driving. If you do drive, parking passes are expensive. It's always going to be difficult to find parking on the street, even if you're willing to pay the meter. Once you're on campus the shuttle system is great! If you're really attached to your car, park it really far away and ride the bus into campus.

You can buy a pass to park in one of the several garages on campus, or try to find a metered spot (there are several around the perimeter). I usually park off campus along a bus line (I live far from campus), and ride the bus in.

I decided to focus on education, which I have sometimes regretted because I miss the intellectual challenge of mathematics and physics. But my career goal is to teach, so in the long run I think it was a reasonable decision.

I'm a math phd student studying math ed. There are not many people around that do rigorous research in this area, so I feel very isolated.

Recruitment on the women's side is rough and based on things that an applicant cannot change about themselves, its not always a personality fit that they are looking for. However it can provide lessons and skills you will take with you throughout your entire adult life.

The campus police are always visible. The text messages on any high alert are very fast. I feel real safe.

Policy enforcement of drugs or alcohol on campus is strictly enforced. Their is no peer pressure that I can see.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
