Drugs and Alcohol in UT – Even though UT is located in a city that is full of bars and clubs, I can say there is a great quantity of students that do not drink. Peer pressure is not an issue of concern in UT. Alcohol and drugs are available but you choose if you want to take them or not.

Really Diverse but More Are Asian – UT at Austin is compiled of people of different races. However, if someone were to start analyzing the students he/she sees, Asian would pop up more often. Throughout the school year, i befriended Hispanics more than any other race even though Hispanics are one of the minor races/ethnicity someone can find in UT.

Good Housing but Fill up Too Fast. The University of Texas has an affiliated off-campus housing referred to as West Campus Housing. There are events that would only a person to apply to housing during the college school year, so spots will fill up fast. My predicament was that I had a class the hour the event took place and wasn't able to apply early. Apartments can still be found, but they are either too far from campus, insufficient to live in, or both. There are many good options available, but the spots can be taken up too fast.

Health & Safety:
Safety at UT – Texas has it's own police force whose presence on campus is noticeable and appreciated. Exterior Safety: They have installed police callboxes with bue lights all over campus to alert them of a problem. The callboxes are close enough together that you can see other callboxes. If you are being chased, all you have to do is hit the button, keep moving, hit the next callbox button, etc. They will know that you are being chased and they know how to look for you.
Interior Safety: you must use your campus issued ID in order to gain access to your dorm - it won't work on any other dorm. This keep out many potential criminals. But, some of your fellow students can be criminals also. Lock your door and when you are outside or studying on campus, always keep your things with you. Leaving a phone, computer, backpack etc alone makes it easy for someone to take it. Common Sense People!

The University of Texas suggests that each student have their own personal computer. Everyone including Professors, RA's in the dorms, Administration, the University Co-Op/Bookstore and Teaching Assistants, etc. communicate via the internet. Class lectures are taped and available online for viewing after class. The university does provide a wireless environment that can be accessed from anywhere on campus and also has direct wiring into each dorm room. You must pay the University for internet access and without internet access, you can nott access any lectures, your blackboard, etc. I have used the internet to look up information to help me understand Calculus and Physics problems I have for homework. Any class changes are e-mailed to the students and checking your e-mail account daily for information is a necessity. The university has programs with different computer vendors to halp make computer ownership for each student possible.
One of the vendors who helps students is Dell Computers. Michael Dell was actually a student here at the University of Texas when he started building personal computers out of his dorm room. He was so successful that he left to build his company and returned later to finish his degree. My Dad was at Texas the same time Michael Dell was and told me about him - pretty cool, huh?
Because I own my own computer, I feel that accessing all the information available to me at the University of Texas is enhanced. If I had to go to the libraries or individual buildings where computers might be available, there is no guarantee that I would be able to get an available computer to use. Having your own computer maximizes time efficiency which is why the University suggests to all students that they have a computer.

Health & Safety:
Safe and Sound – I always feel safe on campus. I even felt fine to walk and jog late at night to and from the gym ( a 13 min walk away at a good pace).

Sports Are Very Important – This is the University of Texas at Austin. You almost get the feel that a lot of people come here just for the football team. There's not a lot to say because almost everybody should know how prominent sports, especially football, are at UT.
But aside from football, there is a wide variety of sports, including many intramural leagues for regular students to take part in if they wish.

Greek Like Is Very Prominent – Greek life is very prominent at UT Austin. It's not that hard to avoid it (I personally have avoided the Greek scene as much as possible, as I'm not the type of person to party, and do not fit in in that type of atmosphere) but it really is everywhere.
If you are the type of person who wants to join a fraternity/sorority or wants to party with them, you'll have no problem joining in. There are plenty of Greek clubs and there is at least one party almost every weekend.
If you want to avoid it, there are definitely enough people that aren't in one and you won't feel to stigmatized for not joining one.

UT Buses – Students at UT mostly rely on buses to get around. There are many bus routes, which is convenient. However, since Austin is such a crowded city, there is not much room for cars to drive around.

Great Student Life at UT – UT is full of places for students to meet and interact. Gregory Gym is a great place to work out. The Student Activities Center and The Union offer places for students to study and meet, and there are plenty of green spaces on campus for students to relax or play extreme frisbee.

UT Is Very Diverse – As most people assume, UT is a very diverse university. There are people of all races, sexual orientations, and religions on campus. It is a great place to become more tolerant of others, which I think is very important. There are also many groups on campus that support the diversity of others, which I think is great.

UT Supports the Arts – My school's art programs are exceptional compared to most around the country. I am a Theatre and Dance Design major, and we have one of the best programs in the country. Our excellent film program also allows the theatre students a chance to dabble in the film arts.

There are a few relatively expensive garages/lots students can get passes for. Apartments and Private Dorms also have their own garages. However, in the city, it is hard to find parking. Without a parking permit, don't event think about driving to campus. Also, the tickets are ridiculous. Once I left my car in a 30 minute parking zone and was under 5 minutes late due to horrible rain. There was already a nice parking ticket waiting.
College Junior 2012-07-10T03:57:00Z
There is usually no where to park anywhere on campus or in campus. There are a lot of limitations and restrictions on the parking spots and they are very expensive. Unless you use your car to go home (if you live off campus) or to get groceries, I would suggest not bringing your car to school. They have a great bus system!

Health & Safety:
Great Police Department – Everyday the University of Texas Police Department sends out an email reporting on the previous night's crimes and lists different ways to prevent any of the crimes from happening to you. I always feel safe on campus because there are police on watch all day.

Many Options but Repetitive – The food on campus is decent. I enjoyed most of the food but after a while I did not know what to eat because I was so tired of eating the same food over and over again. DO NOT eat food from the dining halls during finals. They use the leftovers because they need to get rid of them and they don't restock on the food. I got food poisoning because of it.

Engineering is a great major to be in at UT. Every fall there is an event called EXPO to get an internship for the summer. You meet with representatives from different companies and obtain interviews. There is also free tutoring available for engineers(:
College Junior 2012-07-09T22:25:56Z
The computers at UT are Apple and it is easier to have a Macbook to downlowad the same programs and save documents that you worked on in the computer lab. Wireless access works fine.
College Junior 2012-07-09T22:24:10Z
Good School – I love the campus. There are some very good professors but there are also some professors that should not be teaching. Going to class discussion is very important and tutoring also helps.

Guys & Girls:
A Flavor for Every Taste – No matter what your type is, you'll find it at UT. I would say focus on your academics. But hey, you're in college so either sit back and enjoy the scenery or go talk to the guys/gals and make an impact as well as new friends.
College Junior 2012-07-08T07:32:12Z
So Much Culture – There's a piece of home in Austin for every student. A lot of activities are offered to tourists and students. Many of these activities are free on campus. The State Capital is a sight to see in the evening. And there are quite a few things that can only be done in Austin. But I won't spoil the surprise. Come and see for yourself.
College Junior 2012-07-08T07:08:29Z
Impact Accomplished – Greeks may not dominate UT but they definitely contribute and make an impact on campus. Step shows and probates are a sight to see.

Always a Place to Go or Something to Do – The Library is huge along with all the building (everyone of them has a place to relax and study or just hang out). The gym is amazing and huge and the pools are amazing. I use the athletic facility around twice a week and the library almost everyday. The campus is beautiful and things are really close by. The food on campus and around is great.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
