Hook 'Em! University of Texas football is legendary. They're almost aways championship contenders, excluding the past 2 years. But this year the defense and the run game should beat anything in front of them.

The dining halls (J2 and Kinsolving) offer a variety of food, from healthy vegeterian options to fast foods like pizza and burgers. However, their hours of operation are limited. Eating at campyus dine-ins are expensive and offer more junk food than healthy options, so you should always try to plan your schedule to where you can eat when the dining halls are open!

UT Austin Housing Off-Campus – Honestly, what you pay for in Austin depends on location. West Campus, right of Guadalupe Street near campus, offers several student living but at high prices (usually 600-700 and up per person per month). Riverside, which is about a 10 minute bus ride from campus, is a bit shady of a location but much cheaper (300-400+ per person per month).

Many programs are available to you at U; including the Freshmen Research Initiative for students which offers valuable research opportunities. FIGS are also available for freshmen. This programs place students taking similar classes in study groups with a designated mentor.

Can't Accomodate for Everyone on Campus – The number of available computers there are limited. So I would recommend you bring your own to campus. Network reliability and speed is outstanding. Never experienced a crash. The computers are all Macs.

Buses appear every 15 minutes or so, so it's not that big of a deal if you miss one. They are very helpful. The UT campus is huge so I'm glad a transportation system has be established there. Makes getting to class on time less of a hassle. I should also add that it is completely free to students.

AUSTIN IS AWESOME FOR FOOD – Austin is awesome when it comes to food. If you like classier places, you can head downtown to some steakhouses. If you like casual, there are a ton of great restaurants all over Austin (especially on South Congress). There are also tons of food trucks to try - you'll never run out of places to go eat!
My only complaint is that Asian food sucks here - sorry, but it does!

Guys & Girls:
Guys Are...Ok – You can find a ton of typical frat boys at UT, no problem (if you're into that). I'm not into clones, so I tend to avoid them. Most guys don't care about their dress, which is a big turnoff for me. There are cute guys, but in general, they're just ok.

Audit Intern – As a business student, if you're a good candidate and perform well in interviews (I cannot stress enough that just because you're in a good business school, it doesn't mean that internships and jobs will be handed to you) you can get an internship. The typical audit internship is usually done in the Spring when it's busy season. Be prepared to work more than 8 hours a day (usually around 10-12 hours a day) during busy season. They treat interns very well, and everyone gets the same pay. However, the work isn't exactly the best since students haven't had much experience.

It is very expensive and what has always bugged me about UT is that it is SOOOOO SEGREGATED!! You see only see people hang out with "their own kind" per say I really hate it!

It depends where and at what time you go. During finals FORGET ABOUT IT!! Otherwise it is best if you try PCL.

I would say drinking is very popular. When ever people come back from parties it is obvious they have had a few drinks. Drugs are more popular among certain groups, especially engineering majors.

Great Place for a Government Major. Austin is the capital of Texas, so majoring in Government (what we call Political Science) is a great opportunity for UT students. The professors are truly nationally known experts who are often seen on TV shows and in books nationwide. Internships and political jobs are plentiful.

Live on Campus Starting Out. The dorms at UT are really not bad, and you NEED to live on-campus starting out to get the full college experience. You might hear horror stories about Jester (typical freshman dorm) but even it isn't truly that awful, and you are right in the middle of all the buzz, which makes going to class, getting involved, etc. Duren/San Jac are the nicest, newest dorms, also the most expensive.

Apartments Everywhere, Depends on Where You Go. West Campus is pretty expensive, but the apartments are the most convenient, within walking distance of UT. North Campus is quieter, usually for an older crowd. Riverside and Far West are most affordable but also require a commute every day.

Excellent Center for Academia – Great center for research, professors at the top of their field.

The Research – UT is known to be a research school, and I can not stress enough how great FRI( Freshman Research Initiative) allows incoming freshmen to get a grasp on what research entails. I personally came into the university thinking of becoming a professor, and this program allowed me to partially experience the research atmosphere. Even if research is not your thing, there is still a lot that one can learn and take in from research that just makes a student ambitious to search for other internship opportunities.

Top Notch – I find the challenge of the biological sciences enticing. It is a hard goal in life to aspire the medical field, but doing research under a professor at UT has inspired me to continue in the science field. Courses such as organic chemistry are difficult, but with determination and having the mindset on the day in which graduation comes it is definitely worth it! I took organic chemistry lab this past semester and it was difficult but not impossible due to the course work that was more time consuming than anything else. That is where time management comes in to play with courses like this.

Proactive Place – The university is located around a lot of places such as lakes and museums. In the city of Austin there is always something going on if its not a marathon there are community service projects everywhere. In downtown I have heard that every first thursday of the month there are giveaways by that restaurants.

I am currently a human biology B.S major at the university and for the entry it is not difficult, but the process of staying within the college is challenging. For certain classes such as calculus and chemistry, students have to take a placement test in order to qualify to get enrolled in the course. In order to continue and be officially declared under a biological major one has to complete certain courses out of the curriculum.

The dining halls and food options are well rounded. There are different food options revolving around different cultures. A top notch dinning hall on campus would be Kinsolving because it is a buffet that offers good quality food.

Physician Assitant Internship – If I could do an intership under a physician assistant, I would manage my time wisely because my ultimate goal in life is to become a physician assistant. Currently I am a UT undergrad student taking pre-med courses along with pre- physician courses. I have done a program at UT called freshmen research initiative and enjoyed doing research under a professor. I hope this semester to be in the look out for an internship just to expand my horizons towards the medical experience.

Good Biology Program – As a Cell and Molecular Biology major, I had the opportunity to take challenging, fun courses with some of the best professors in the nation. The UT Austin Biology program has a variety of options for students to pick from and it allows flexibility to also take courses from other departments. Overall the biology program is very good and satisfying.

Drinking Is Popular Among Social Groups – Drug use on campus is barely noticeable on campus. However, many social groups such as sororities and fraternities engage in frequent drinking off campus. It is a popular activity among these socially engaged groups, but it does not pose any pressures on other groups and it does not disturb the learning environment on campus.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
