The UT campus bus system is a great way to get around campus if you don't want to walk all the time. It will take you to any major spot on campus. Also, the e bus that can take you to 6th street and back is a wonderful resource!

The University of Texas is a large campus in the middle of the bustling city of Austin. Although it would be easy to assume that UT's campus is too large, it really is a little community with many options of extracurricular activities and ways to get involved. The dining at UT is the best of any college campus I've seen. It is new and offers many healthy interesting foods as well as some good down home country food.

Live Music Capital of the World! Austin, TX is home to one of the best live music scenes in the world right now and it's really easy and a lot of fun to be a part of. With great live bands every night of the week, volunteer programs through Austin City Limits music festival, and a great student radio station on campus, there are plenty of ways to enjoy or take part in the industry.

6Th Street – If I could rate this A++++, I would. There is no other place like Austin to experience nightlife. If you are looking for bars, we have got what you want. 6th street, one of the greatest places in Austin, has a stretch of blocks that is specifically designated to bars. Transportation to and from the bars is made very accessible to the students, so we are always safe. And of course, we do have a HUGE Greek life, which includes a whole weekend dedicated to parties. ROUND UP, is what it is called.

Guys & Girls:
Many of the students here, like myself, just fit in. We dress according to society. Though some stray away from acting the "norm", many are similar. Girls, that are in sororities are easy to point out, much like a guy that is in a fraternity. Although we may be easy to point out, we do take pride at our University for the strong Greek life.

Keep Austin Weird – Austin is for sure a college town. I come from Houston, and I am so glad that I am able to live and go to school in Austin. There are so many things to do. One of the things I have grown to love is the excessive amount of food diversity. The people and sights you will encounter are truly one of a kind. Many of the students are glad that they attend University of Texas at Austin.

Greek life seems to be very active at UT. There is always a party occurring at a Frat. Not so much for sororities though. It's not mandatory to be in a Frat, but they are always welcoming when I have been.

Although parking permits may seem rather pricey, it becomes extremely convenient to purchase one in the case that you will need your car for everyday tasks. Tasks include grocery shopping, bargain hunting for school appliances, concerts, etc. By being strict with parking permits, it allows students the benefit in knowing they're being rightfully respected in terms of money and parking spaces. The consequences for parking without a permit are immediately put into affect. Parking spaces are not determined on age, sex, or ethnicity, etc. They are simply based on first come first serve as it should be. The security is also of great need and greatly provided to ensure that student's cars aren't being tempered with or damaged and to monitor that students leave and reach their automobiles safely. 24 hour camera monitoring is also provided to perfect the surveilance of students.

Extreamly Open – So far I have not found any racial issues. I have heard that there were large divides between races, but maybe as students become more progressive, that there are less problems. Personally I have found people to be very open and accepting of everyone for any and all reasons. Sexuality, gender, race, disability. Much more open then any high school.

Alcohol Scene – As far as i'm concerned, the school does a great job to assure that minors do not mix in with the wrong crowd that deals with illegal substances such as drugs and alcohol. Because a majority of the younger generation stays on campus in a dorm, there is 24 hour monitoring. Moreover, it becomes fairly impossible to sneak around when you're being watched like a hawk. However, young adults will find a way to do just about anything, so while the school may be doing a good job to keep the campus as drug-free and safe as possible, there is no way they can monitor all fifty thousand students attending. realistically speaking, there is no way that they can over look every single decision a student makes. Thus far, the university of Austin does a great job in making sure they relay the message towards these illegal substances by displaying a zero tolerance towards drugs and under aged drinking. Peer pressure is constantly talked about and by upper level students you are taught how to steer away from the unwanted pressure of being influenced to give into the party scene. All in all, i believe that the university of Texas does a great job to keep its students on the right path towards learning and a healhty life style.

Great City With a Great School – The University of Texas's great football team and amazing academics were both great drawing points. I was also very excited to learn about an Architectural Engineering program, which I found to be very rare. Going for architecture, but wanting an Engineering base difficult until UT. The buildings are beautiful and every professor so far seems to be incredibly interested in the students, maybe because only interesting students make it to UT

What makes the off campus housing so convenient and safe is the fact that it isn't too far off from campus itself. Also you are surrounded by plenty of familiar faces that attend the same school as you do, therefore it becomes easy to make friends and accompany one another on the road to school as well as the ability to look out for one another. The costs are usually moderated to accomodate a college student who more than likely can't afford the most luxurious cost of living. In this case, the off campus housing such as Riverside are most convenient for college students by already including most of the utility costs and what not. I also believe that the off campus experience allows for students to fully understand and comprehend what it is to be a full time adult rather than the accomodations met by living on campus in a dorm in which you are constantly monitored.

I Love ATX – The atmosphere provided by UT is amazing and the surrounding city is wonderful with so much to do for whatever your interests are. Great campus ministry and I love the people i am around and would chose to go here again because I know its where i was supposed to be. You have to be careful of the social life taking over everything else but once you learn that your good to go.

There is no excuse for not passing your classes. The campus offers so many resources to help you learn and study. There are tutors, study groups, and counselors if youre just having a hard day.

Health & Safety:
Safe Within the Austin – The university of Texas is spread out across downtown Austin. It is not considered a particularly safe place, considering there tends to be "weird" people living on the streets of downtown. However, I have never felt unsafe. The employees, security, and other students have made it a safe environment. Even people, just driving through the downtown, make themselves aware of students walking around campus. However I would stay away from walking alone on the drag at nighttime.

I like my apartment on 6th Street where I pay $510 plus electricity every month for about 615 square feet. It was built in the 1950's and had no dishwasher but there are laundry units every where in the complex. Internet, cable and water come with the place. The wait to get in is generally 6-18 months and you have to be a full time student at UT. It's very safe and quiet, a lot of parking and a bus stop at the entrance of the complex. Your student ID means free bus rides everywhere, including school.
