So UT is well known for being a party school, it's pretty hard to get around that given that it's Austin and downtown is only a few blocks away, but if that is your concern (as it was mine) then I was relieved to find that UT has very strict regulations as far as drug and alcohol use on campus. Even the night life is safe, UT has it's own police force with these help stations every couple yards or so that if you hit the button, the UTPD will be there quickly in case of an emergency.
