You really couldn’t ask for a much better college town than Austin, Texas, the Live Music Capital of the World. There is so much to do in Austin and definitely something for everyone—bars, museums, parks, lakes, running trails, kayaking, shopping, coffee houses, outdoor music venues, smoky blues clubs, naked swimming at Hippie Hollow. There is even a little beach in central Texas—Volente Waterpark Beach.
Austin is a city with a small-town feel, and that is what most people love about it. When you live near UT, you are two minutes from downtown. People around here are walking everywhere, there is a lot of biking, and the people couldn’t be friendlier. Everyone loves the laid-back atmosphere of Austin, and the fact that anything goes. On any day of the week, you can sit around outside people watching for hours and keep yourself entertained. The fun thing about Austin is that if you want to just be lazy and relax by the lake or at the park, you can do that. But if you want to be active, there are tons of places to run, bike, swim, hike, kayak, climb, or pretty much anything you can imagine. The 50,000 students of the University of Texas include so many different kinds of people with so many different kinds of interests that they blend right in to the laid-back, but always fun town that is Austin.
