Facts & Statistics

Best Ways to Get Around Town
  • Considering how the Dallas-Richardson-Plano urban complex is thinly spread out, it's nice to have a car, especially to get to fun places like malls, movie theaters, and parks.
  • Although having a car is convenient, using public transportation is free. With some good planning, students can get almost anywhere quite efficiently.
Best Ways to Get to the Airport
  • If you don't mind some inconveniences, the Dallas Area Rapid Transit-or DART-provides the cheapest transportation to the DFW Airport. First, catch an 883 UTD shuttle on campus to the Bush Turnpike station. From there, ride the Red Line to downtown Dallas, where you need to switch to the Green Line. After a stop or two (pay attention!), switch to the Trinity Railway Express, which will take you to the airport. The entire trip can take more than an hour and a lot of energy, but it's totally free, provided that you bring your UTD-assigned DART pass.
  • One of the best ways to get to the DFW International Airport is by driving-that is, if you have someone to take you there. Directions can easily be found on Google Maps, and even by the site's standard of speed safety, it's only a 35-minute drive. If you have heavy luggage and/or a friend with some free time, this is the recommended way.
  • There are taxi services connecting the DFW Airport and UT Dallas, but they may cost $50 or more. Therefore, it's wise to plan your trip early to avoid extra expenses.
Local Taxi Services
The Dallas Yellow Cab offers taxi services for North Texas cities. However, students generally choose not to ride cabs because the urban areas are relatively spread out, meaning high service charges.
Did You Know?
  • The Dallas area has a lot of airports. Biggest and most popular of them are the DFW International Airport and Dallas Love Field Airport.
  • Comet Cabs, a complimentary shuttle service, runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. during the week on a continuous loop around campus.
