Overall ExperienceWhat's This?

The University of Texas at El Paso provides students with a period of time that they can look back on fondly, like shuffling through an album of memories. By the end of their stay, students think of the school as a part of their family. Resources are available in droves to keep students on their feet and motivated. As far as events, UTEP promotes itself very efficiently. Minerpalooza is an event hosted on campus to promote the season-opener game for the football season. This event is similar to a fair, and many students and residents of the city attend every year.

As far as preparing students for achieving their goals, UTEP opens doors. Internships are available through school programs or advertised to give students a broader view. Opportunities are presented for programs outside of El Paso, giving students the chance to step outside the front door. The University prepares students to be first-rate versions of themselves, with a staff dedicated to the school’s vision of growing and changing for the best. The students may be diverse, but everyone seems to smile and be very approachable.

Not Visible or a Problem

In my time here at UTEP, I have not had any problems or seen anything out of the ordinary. I see a few people smoking here and there, and people drinking at special events, but other than that I don't know of any issues.

Mainly Mexican

What can you expect from living on the border? There are many students from different countries and cultures, but the majority of El Paso residents, and UTEP students, are of Mexican or Hispanic origin/descent. However, I have had students from other countries in most of my classes and at my on-campus job. I find I am more eager to learn about their backgrounds as a result of their rareness at our school!
