Although students do not have a curfew at UIW, safety is still at the top of the University's priority list. Overall, UIW is a very safe campus, with a great team of 24-hour police officers and RAs looking out for students. Residence Life is probably one of the strictest departments on campus. They have a lot of policies that may sound a bit childish to students, but ultimately, they were made to ensure the safety of all residents on campus. You will hear many students complain that the rules of residence life are ridiculous because they are in college already and do not want to be treated like high school students.
Visitation hours are enforced, especially in single-sex dorms. Residents must escort their visitors in and out of their buildings. If they fail to do so, they will receive a fine. If underage students are caught drinking, they are fined. Same goes with drugs; if students are caught with any type of illegal drugs, they will be fined. After multiple offenses for drugs or alcohol, students will receive further disciplinary action and may run the risk of getting kicked out of the University.
