Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The University of Utah is obviously populated by many Mormons who follow the adage "Bring 'em Young." That being said, there are a lot of married students at the U. However, this should not discourage you from trying to find love on campus. It's a big school and that equates to many single people, kind of the strength-in-numbers approach.

Many Mormons feel it's necessary to date and marry within their faith, and the Institute across the street from campus does a good job of introducing young people. For those not of Mormon faith, it then becomes your responsibility to meet and mingle with others. There are plenty of clubs, organizations, parties, and different means to meet people. The University of Utah has some very good-looking people, but be warned—look for wedding rings before making that final approach!

Generally Friendly

People are generally friendly and willing to talk. There isn't a lot of diversity here, although there are some foreign students. Some good-looking guys, some not-so-good-looking (but hey, where are there not?) The school is big enough that you can definitely find a date, no matter your preferences!

Quiet

People tend to keep pretty to themselves in class unless they know the people already. They aren't extremely out going unless you are part of their group already.

Facts

Social Scene

Because the U is a commuter campus, the sense of a "campus community" is largely nonexistent. If you take the time to get involved with clubs and organizations, however, you'll be able to carve out your own little community. For those who live on campus, though, dorm life is reasonably healthy and provides ample opportunities to meet people.

Hookups or Relationships?

Depends. If you're Mormon, you're probably looking to get married, and if you are married, you're not looking at all. If you're not Mormon, you are probably looking for more of a casual relationship. Overall, there seems to be a rush to get to the altar, which engulfs the whole state of Utah no matter where you go. Maybe it's just in the water.

Dress Code

People at the U come in a wide variety of wardrobes, but by and large, "casual" is the name of the game. The more dressed up someone is, the less time he or she has spent at the U. To buy a few extra minutes of sleep, a lot of commuters forgo certain social amenities (like shaving, makeup, and so on).
