College Prowler Take
As with many places, security is a question of common sense. The U is a big campus with lots of trees for prowlers to hide behind late at night, but if you aren’t walking around late, you’ll be fine. (Actually, you’ll probably be okay even then, but play it safe.) Because alcohol is inexorably linked to sexual assault, especially on college campuses, the U’s strict alcohol rules should help keep you safe in this regard (only eight were reported last year). The dorms’ security systems were built with Olympic athletes in mind, so they’re top notch.
If security is a big issue for you, this document will help you get a better perspective on which crimes are committed on campus, how frequently, and how best to avoid letting them happen to you. The most common crime committed at the University of Utah is theft of personal items. Students leave backpacks unattended, or employees leave their office doors unlocked, and someone swipes their stuff. Keep an eye on your backpack at all times! Lock the door behind you!

I feel very secure on campus. I seldom hear of occurrences that would make me feel otherwise. If you’re smart, you won’t put yourself in situations so that feel unsafe, like walking alone at night. Duh. |

As a woman, I always felt very safe on campus. There is good lighting and close parking lots accessible for evening classes. Many call-boxes are located throughout campus for security. |

On Safety
A
I always feel safe at the University of Utah. It is the only campus in the nation to allow personal handguns on campus and even still, I feel it is safer than most schools. Be responsible and take care of your belongings and everything will be marvelous.

I think we have a very safe campus. The sidewalks are all well lit, and we have a good campus security team who is constantly working to improve campus. |

Security and safety seem to be of good quality. I’ve never needed it, so I couldn’t give you an accurate opinion. |
