Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The local atmosphere in Salt Lake City is basically that of any metropolitan city. However, the problem that most people encounter is the stark contrast between the conservative nature surrounding Salt Lake City and the city itself, which leans toward the left politically speaking. The contrast magnifies the diversity between the Mormon culture and the regular, average people living downtown. Being a mid-sized city provides some of the opportunities found in a big city (only without the headaches), while at the same time providing small-town charm and security.

Most people you meet in SLC are more of the outdoorsy types, whether it be environmentalists who want to conserve the forest or anglers and hunters who want to use it without regulations. There is a lot of diversity on campus and in the city.  It's true that the Mormon religion has widely influenced the culture. Do not be surprised if you are asked if you're a "member." This is a common question asked by Mormons and non-Mormons alike. Some non-Mormons feel alienated because they are not members and, unfortunately, are treated differently. However, the majority embraces non-members. Overall, Salt Lake City has a little bit for everyone and is a great place to get a start in any career path.

Salt Lake City Living

Most people think of Salt Lake City as the ski capitol or the Mormon capitol of the U.S. Salt Lake is actually a very hip, liberal city with a rocking nightlife and beautiful neighborhoods. The mountains are 15 minutes away and we're close to 12 ski resorts. You can't beat the view from the University of Utah campus -- the mountains, valley, and Great Salt Lake are breathtaking.

Salt Lake City

Salt Lake City is a beautiful place. It's really close to a bunch of skiing opportunities, hiking and boating. It is also adjacent to the glorious capitol of Utah. Free concerts in the park on Saturday nights, free food sometimes, it's just a great place to be.

Beautiful, Clean and Fun

Salt Lake City is beautiful and clean, and has a lot to offer with outdoor sports and a great university. I really love the school dynamic. I love to ski and hike in the mountains, which are easily accessible and a quick escape from city life. The city has nice festivals and free concerts and it's a lot of fun to live here and figure out all the cool things the city has to offer! It is also a very safe city, great shopping and public transportation, and a city that is proud of their university.
